ah sweet memories 3
Despite being packaged as royal rumble 1 and 2,(1989,1990),this is actually rumble 2 and 3,a royal rumble took place in 1988 and was won by hacksaw jim duggan,it wasnt a pay per view granted but that is the first rumble, anyway that being said this is a nicely packaged combi and very affordable to boot and none of the WWF logos are blurred so rejoice.
The 1989 royal rumble reminds me instantly of the good old days when the WWE was the WWF and i was but a boy who loved the company,i still do,but this was a different era,a family era,the attitude era was years away, the women that wrestled were tough and not divas and there was no boundary between good and evil, the line was drawn and a very hyper crowd who werent drowning in pay per views were hysterical and hyper at every turn.
The event started with hacksaw jim duggan and the hart foundation going up against the fabulous rougeaus and dino bravo in a very entertaining six man tag, this match was skillful and bruising and fought at a fair old pace, very hard to fault.
The ultimate warrior and rick rude went up against each other in a posedown that smacked of desperation and is very cringeworthy, bobby heenan kissing up to an anti rude crowd was the highlight but aside from that there was no point in this posedown and im glad it didnt become a regular occurence.
The final match before the royal rumble match involved rockin robin, the wwf womans champion, going up against judy martin, these two women came to fight and while it didnt go on long, was better than many of the diva matches that appear today.
The royal rumble match itself was entertaining with a great range of wrestlers from the era showcasing their talents,it wasnt until 1993 that the winner of the royal rumble got an automatic title shot at wrestlemania but there was much to be gained winning this, well perhaps not for the man who did win this as he wasnt with the company for long after this but he will go down as the winner of a very competitive rumble, special mention goes to the african dream, akeem who impressed me here in the rumble with his energy and dynamics in the ring.
The 1990 royal rumble contained four matches prior to the royal rumble match and they were all pretty terrible, the bushwackers vs The Fabulous Rougeaus was terrible due to teh bushwackers acting like pure idiots biting bottoms and humilating everyone involved with their antics, next we had the genius against brutus the barber beefcake in a match that was poor, the genius prancing about like God knows what and making a meal of things and beefcake running out of ideas fast, the interference of mr.perfect sparked this into life a little at least.
Rugged ronnie garvin fought greg valentine next in one of the worst matches i have ever seen in my life,it was a submission match and boy did it stink hey, garvin kept going for the pin which looked stupid and this match was just so off the boil that i cant find the words to slate this like i should, avoid like the plague i suppose.
Finally hacksaw jim duggan went one on one against the big boss man in a brawl that wasnt high in quality and outstayed its welcome.
The royal rumble itself was very good indeed with a great winner and some great performances, one of which was ted dibiase who put in a great individual display, this rumble was again high in the quality of the wrestler involved, good entertainment is certain with both royal rumble matches but the undercards at this point were not without problems.

Aging cream needed.4
These Royal Rumble events, released around 15 years after they were first released, have not aged well. The first event, Royal Rumble 1989 consists of a great opening bout between Hart foundation and Bravo's team in 2/3 falls match, and a weak womens bout. The first Royal Rumble match ever shown in the UK (we didn't get the '88 one) is not a bad affair, but it's not great either. Royal Rumble is a slight improvement on it's predecessor, with a great bout between Garvin and Valentine (more NWA than WWF in style), and Duggan vs. The Bossman is a good strong bout, although a little slow in places. The Royal Rumble itself is far more entertaining, as the strong WWF roster are far more inventive and fast paced in the bouts style.

TO ANSWER THAT GUYS QUESTION5
TO ANSWER THE BELOW QUESTION.I OWN ALL OF THESE AND THERE IS NO EDITING, NO BLURS, NO MUSIC EDITS , WRESTLERS SAY WWF AND COMMENTATORS SAY WWF. THESE ARE EXACT copies but in dvd quality picture and sound of the vhs releases. i have no idea why silvervison edited the box cover and the old wwf block logo on the cover. they did not have to.maybe they did not want to draw media attention or wildlife fund to it. also silvervison will release king of the ring 98 this june and there will be no editing on the wwf scratch logo. unlike the wrestlemania anthology. however europe only will benefit from this as they are not allowed be sold in the states. i hope this makes you happy
