Paradise Pool - Playstation 2 Review
This is, quite simply, the best pool game I have ever played on ANY console. The gameplay mechanics are quite simply brilliant and the AI of your opponent is very good. However, as always playing against a mate is infinitely better as always! The analog control for your actual cue action is very good and feels very natural and enables you to be more accurate when taking your shot in terms of power and control - it works in the same way that the analog stick controls your golf swing in EA's recent Tiger Woods golf games. The graphics are very good, and the sub games included (Dropzone, Darts to name 2) are nice touch too. The darts game in particular is a favourite of mine and plays very well in its own right. This game is a an absolute steal at £19.99 and a must have purchase for any one after a pool simulation for their PS2. Put simply, this dumps all over the competition and sends them home in a body bag for good measure.
Pure Paradise?
Pool Paradise is (on paper) a pool players dream game, it combines all thefeatures you want (and more) in a pool game and on top of that doesn'ttake itself too seriously (after all pool is seen as a more 'relaxed'sport when compared to snooker). The graphics for this game were pleasentenough and the number of options available were pleasing (although some ofthe mini games you can unlock leave alot to be desired!!).
My maingripe with the game was the time it takes for your opponent (when playingthe CPU) to make their shot, you see their hands 'pace' around the tableeye-ing every possible shot rather than the computer masking this thoughtprocess and getting on with the shot which makes games sometimes very slowwhich is not what you expect from a game of pool.
Aside from this thegame's pretty good with a large number of opponents to play (although youcan leap-frog past alot of them on the tournement ladder if you haveenough cash which does spoil the challenge somewhat).
My final problemwas with the two-player option, this game only appears to only supportofficial PS2 joypads which meant that both my third-party controller andmy old analogue PS1 controller didn't work although they do with other PS2games and with Pool Paradise in they were detected by the PS2 as theanalogue light was on... No-one was home though so I can't comment on thetwo player side although this was the main reason the game got 4stars!
All in all a very good game, only let down by the lack of third partyhardware support.
Fantastic Gameplay!
This game is fantastic. I bought this game second hand very cheaply and it's the game I now play most often. It's simple, easy to play and great to play with friends. With so many different version of pool included. If you love to go down the pub and play pool with your friends, you'll love this game.
