DVD Description
A 2002 DJ Shadow concert at London's Brixton Academy is chronicled on In Tune and On Time. The CD features 20 tracks, including "Drums of Death" and "Lonely Soul" from Shadow's collaboration with James LaVelle as UNKLE, as well as favourites from Blackalicious ("Halfway Home") and Handsome Boy Modeling School ("Holy Calamity").
The DVD sports four additional tracks, includes the two standout cuts "You Can't Go Home Again" and "6 Days" from his 2002 album The Private Press. Also featured is a sampler battle between Shadow, Cut Chemist and Jurassic 5's DJ Nu-Mark taped at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles, on-the-road footage and an interview with Shadow.
Customer Reviews
Amazing.. from start to finish..
From start to finish is definitely how you should play this. Whether you're watching the DVD or playing the CD, it needs to be heard in its entirety.
Being a huge Shadow fan this is probably my favourite collection of his work to date. If you're not a huge Shadow fan then this would be a great place to start.
As soon as you hear the 'whomp, whomp' intro of 'Fixed Income' you'll know exactly what you're in for. Shadow mixes and matches all his best work effortlessly and I've heard some people say they actually prefer a few versions to their originals.
As far as the DVD goes it's excellently shot, with a mixture of Shadow, crowd, equipment and weird trippy visuals that work really well with the music.
The extras aren't bad either with the 'Pushing Buttons' routine with Cut Chemist and Numark standing out. There is also a secret extra to be found within the menu (hint: I had to use my computer mouse to find it) which is an in depth look at the making of some of DJ Shadows music videos.
I seriously can't recommend this enough, regardless if you're a fan or not. Fantastic DVD capturing the atmosphere of a magical performance by DJ Shadow, brought to you in tune and on time!
Superb - Shadow at his best
After his awful Outsider album - it was nice to discover this floating around. I saw the same tour (but not at Brixton) and this really is a sublime DVD. The footage is extensive and well cut together - the tunes are deadly - with some superb scratching (note on the recent outsider tour - there was nothing anywhere near as inspiring as there is on this DVD). You really should own this DVD / CD set as it is now deleted and highlights a masterclass in breakbeat / hip-hop / ambient music. It also features a 5.1 surround mix. Awesome.
the follow up
Released sometime after Private Press but recorded shortly after its release this DVD/CD package somewhat explains why Private Press was a little disappointing .......... Shadow was concentrating far too much on his live performances and this recording of a LIVE show proves it .
DJ Shadow showcases the diversity of material he has had a hand in producing and puts it all together wonderfully . The playlist for the set is extensive . My own personal favourite moment is the vocal from 'Rabbit in your headlights' mixed with the introduction of 'Blood on the Motorway' which every time I hear I get taken awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!
The quality of the recording both visually and audibly is extremely good and with the right home mood settings , you could almost imagine yourself stretched out on a sofa located somewhere in amongst the audience .
