Synopsis
Going boldly where no man had gone before, Gene Roddenberry's cult phenomenon Star Trek debuted in 1966 and reflected that decade's optimistic preoccupation with space travel. Set in the 23rd century, the series chronicled the intergalactic adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise on its five-year mission to explore the outer reaches of space. Encountering a now-iconic assembly of innovative alien life forms such as the Klingons, Romulans, Tribbles, and Khan Noonian Singh, the ship's jumpsuited crew was a then unheard-of font of multiculturism: Asian Hikaru Sulu (George Takei), African-American Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), and Scotsman Montgomery Scotty Scott (James Doohan). But it was the contrasting personalities of cooly logical Vulcan Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), emotionally intuitive medical officer Leonard Bones McCoy (DeForest Kelley), and womanizing ship captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner in definitive overacting mode) that lent the series much of its charm--and spawned a rabid cult following that continues to fuel costume sales and convention bookings to this very day. Presented here is every episode from the show's debut series.

Trekking back in time5
Fellow Trekkies this is how it all began Kirk and crew set on thier historic five year trek across the stars.

Logical Spock, Chief Engineer Scott (Scotty), and the other famous crew members.

This boxset contains ever episode of Star Trek TOS apart from the original pilot which Captain Pike I found the lay out of the episodes rather confusing but die hard trekkies will enjoy the set anyway.

This is only the first season there are two more this has over 3 hours of special features never seen before interviews and previews.

All true trekkies should own all three seasons.

A little piece of TV History4
Ok so the sets are a bit wobbly and the effects look equally wobbly by modern standards. However Star Trek altered the shape of sci-fi on the small screen forever and is worth watching in all its glory. Or if like me you may just like to relive your child-hood memories :)

BTW - someone mentioned the odd running order - it is presented in the original 'airing' sequence from 1966 when it was first broadcast in California. Oh gawd - I must get out and get a life...

The First Star Trek Season Is The Best5
The greatest sci-fi show of all time is in my humble opinion 'Star Trek'- 'the original series' and the show's best season is arguably its first.
It's hard to go wrong with this package because its contents are so great. 'Star Trek' was a science fiction show, of course, but at its core were real human dramas which one could find easy to relate to in any time period. Fortunately, Gene Roddenberry's grand vision translated incredibly well onto our tv screens although the show was never fully appreciated until long after it was cancelled.
The joy of 'Star Trek' is its moral based themes, its mix of race and colour all working side by side at a time when there were still strong prejudices (mid sixties) interwoven with highly imaginative storylines. Star Trek's drama based format means that it's also accessible to all ages even those who sometimes fail to grasp some of the stories deeper meanings.
The first season was the most consistently great because it was new and fresh and everything being attempted was a first. Of course certain episodes may stand out a little more than others but none of them ever drop below a certain level in quality.
I'm not going to mention which episodes are this DVDs highlights because there are just so many - all i will say that this is an essential a purchase as you're ever going to make if you're a fan of 'Star Trek' - 'the original series'.
