Doesn't do justice to the legend
I found this DVD rather disappointing. On the plus side there's a nice long documentary of the man behind Stone Cold's metaphorical mask, including some of his history with WCW, ECW and WWF/E and a few matches (mostly from before his career went stratospheric). What you don't get though is what I suspect many people will want this DVD for (myself included): a film of Stone Cold Steve Austin, the wrestler. His persona is legendary and he was one hell of a spectacle in the ring, and is something we're probably not going to get to see it again. What I really want is recordings summarising his main rivalries, with the backstage interviews and fight footage building up a profile of Stone Cold.
In this area, the DVD fails utterly, it only offers a series of very short clips. If you want to know a bit more about the man Steve Anderson rather than the wrestler Steve Austin however, this should interest you. But perhaps not quite as much as you'd want.
GIVE ME A HELL YEAH!
He's restles under many names, "Stunning" Steve Austin, The Ringmaster, even under his own name Steve Williams. But to me, Anthony Collins from Western-Super-Mare and the legions of WWE fans around the world he will always be known to us Stone Cold Steve Austin!
The DVD starts by discussing his roots in Texas, one of four boys known as the Williams gang. Interviews galore with family and school friends as well as his colleagues at Wrestling School in Dallas.
The second part discusses his entry into WCW, World Championship Wrestling and to him being hired by World Wrestling Entertainment. There's some good highlights of his best fights and ultimately his f-u attitude with the multimillionaire boss of WWE.
We also have to endure footage of what was a heart-breaking moment for me and I'm sure many of his fans - the day he walked away from the wrestling business in 2001 and again in 2004.
This DVD finally tells the truth about the legend - the one man who got WWE back to the top of the ratings (against a very dominant WCW).
This DVD is well worth buying, and thats the bottom line cause Anthony Collins says so!
THE STONE COLD TRUTH
The main feature is a 45 min documentary which is very interesting.Hear how Steve Williams went from a shy young Texan to a hell raising rattlesnake.
Steve talks about WCW and teaming with Brian Pillman as The Hollywood Blondes. He talks about being held down by WCW and how Eric Bischoff fired him over the phone. He then talks about ECW and going to WWE as The Ringmaster and later becoming 'Stone Cold'.He also covers the neck injury against Owen Hart in 97 and how he got started in the wrestling business.
Also, you get to hear from Steve's parents, his 3 brothers and his sister about what he was like growing up.You hear from his ex wife and his 2 daughters who live in England.
The extras are really good aswell. You get some of his best promos from ECW including his impersonations of Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan,a great segment with the Hollywood Blondes on 'A Flair For The Gold',and loads of his promos from WWE including a beer bash and singing with Lilian Garcia.
You also get these complete matches:
1)'Stunning' Steve Austin VS 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton -(WCW Worldwide)(03/06/91)(WCW TV Title match)
2)The Hollywood Blondes VS Ric Flair & Arn Anderson -(WCW Clash Of The Champions)(17/06/93)(WCW Tag Titles 2/3 Falls match)
3)Steve Austin VS Mikey Whipwreck -(ECW November To Remember 95)(18/11/95)(ECW World Title match)
4)The Ringmaster VS Scott Taylor -(WWE Superstars)(20/01/96)(Austin's WWE Debut)
5)Stone Cold Steve Austin VS Owen Hart -(WWE SummerSlam 97)(03/08/97)(WWE IC Title match)
Overall this is a very good DVD but Austin deserves more than one disc. Then they could show his matches against Ricky Steamboat,Bret Hart,The Rock and more Hollywood Blondes matches.Still, what's on here is really good and well put together.I certainly recommend this DVD.
