Product Description

'Affirmation' follows on from 2002's 'What I Am' and is similar in style to the Wolverhampton soul singer's three previous albums. Mixing up modern r'n'b with lounge soul and hints of jazz and funk, Knight creates a very mainstream easy listening album. The album includes the single 'Come As You Are'.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Beverley Knight's fourth album Affirmation is worthy of her reputation as Britain's premier soul and R&B performer. A progression from her last album, Who I Am, here there is a great selection of songs with lively, dynamic arrangements. The instant highlight is opening track and lead single "Come as You Are" cowritten with Robbie Williams' ex-partner Guy Chambers, and is a rocky power-soul number à la Tina Turner. It begins with a catchy melody that builds into a crescendo of drums, guitars and swirling organs backing Knight's impassioned, world-class vocals.

The rest of Affirmation is a little more subdued but no less accomplished. "Supasonic" is a fresh-sounding homage to the purple Prince--funky, catchy with a great melody and guitar hook that sucks you in. On the gentler side, "No One ever Loves in Vain", another song with Chambers, is soulful, stripped-down and slinky with a lush piano complimenting Knight perfectly. A few songs such as "Keep the Fire Burning" and the title track are more contemporary R&B-influenced but not overtly poppy as to cheapen the rest of the of the album. It's this diversity with taste that makes Affirmation another great album from the UK's soul queen. --Georgina Collins

FANTASTIC!5
I Really love this CD. it is one that I play over and over when I am in the mood for this type of music. Love it. This one along with the others are on my "Keep" pile. This type of music does not seem to go "out of date". I play it if and when the mood takes me.

One word: AWESOME!5
Never been a big fan of Beverley Knight or many female "soul" singers to be honest, but I heard a few of her songs on the radio and decided to take a chance on the album. I haven't stopped listening to it since it dropped on the doormat in that innocent little brown box. It's an awesome album. Every track could have been released as a single and would have been a hit (if the single-buying public was aged over 9 and was less fickle).

Beverley the great!5
What can I say, this album is my favourite album of the past 12 months! Beverley has proven herself to be rediculously talented, a true British gem who doesn't get the credit she deserves! Every song on this album is amazing and you can tell Beverly's really put her heart and soul into every song. My particular fave is the beautiful "first time" also "remember me" a song that brought me to tears the first time I heard it. There's also the upbeat offerings of "come as you are", "keep this fire burning" and "tea and sympathy". To summarise EVERYONE should have this album as part of their collection a classic which should not go un-noticed! If you do one thing today buy this album!
