Customer Reviews
Great summer sounds.. but is Clubland aiming at younger audiences each year?
Although a nice album, packed with fab summer sounds, I get the impression each year Clubland aims their albums at a younger audience. Volume 4 was the best by a mile, but this album makes you feel more like a kid. Special D is just one example, but I guess it wont do any harm having a bit of fun once a year!
Cd1 takes the harder scene, and kicks off with the rather childish song Discoland, followed by a few better tunes that dont sound as cheesey. I'm in heaven is one of my favourites - fantastic, Your shining, Elements, Lover, and a few others, including Body Talk all follow this nice flow of 'lesser' cheesey music that sounds great during the summer. But overall, its quite a happy sounding disc.
Cd2 has house music, and is really well put together. For Clubland, I would say this is their best use of house music, and sound alot better than cd1, in a sense of commerciality and cheese is replaced by good smooth, funky sounds!
Overall its a 'good' album, but Clubland is heading towards a kids label. If your want for some fun during the summer, this is definately the album
great album
I loved this album,it is very enjoyable. The first CD has most of the catchy tunes I have never been a club so even I enjoyed these.
CD2 needs a little more listening to get used to the music I pushed each song slightly forward when listening just to get to the "meat" of the songs and was pleasantly surprised to find some real gems amongst what I thought was just ordinary music.
It's too 21st Century...
Some of these tracks on 'Clubland 5' are excellent, with typical club devices and some fantastic uplifting layers and lyrics. They are all feel good tunes, which I believe is the key to Clubland's success.
So what's the problem? I'm only 17, but I have noticed that in 2004, there are far more other genres of music, mainly pop and rap, that are being included in the 'dance' section. These genres appear too frequently on this album for my liking.
Granted, such songs are remixed into a club version, but the base of the original song is still there.
That's one other critisicm I have about Clubland 5 - there are loads of remixes, and few original (and usually best) versions.
However, it still captures that club feeling, and Clubland 5 integrates techno in Scooter, and trance in Vries into the album. It is a must have album for party goers, and for people who like the new 21st century slant on dance music.
My fave tracks are 'Take My Hand' by Jurgen Vries, 'Elements' by Neo Cortex and probably the Scooter one I mentioned earlier, 'Jigga Jigga.'
