Manufacturer's Description
Based on New Line Cinema's upcoming film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King video game puts the fate of Middle-earth in the hands of the gamer. In the final installment of the blockbuster movie trilogy, players must destroy the One Ring by casting it into the Crack of Doom, freeing Middle-earth from the clutches of the Dark Lord Sauron.
EA's second Lord of the Rings action adventure game, The Return of the King, allows players to journey through multiple gameplay paths, taking control of the motion picture trilogy's heroes. Defend the walls of Minas Tirith as Gandalf, raise the Army of the Dead as Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli, and with Frodo and Sam, deliver the ring to the fiery depths of Mount Doom.
Based on the environments from the upcoming movie, The Return of the King's third person gameplay will include immersive action and adventure elements set in rich, interactive levels. An all-new multiplayer co-op mode will let players form their own Fellowship before embarking on their journey through Middle-earth.

Fun
As the biggest Lord of the Rings fan ever I wasted no time in getting this game as soon as it came out. And I think "fun" is the best way to describe it.
This game is by no means flawless. The irritating camera angles, the repetative quality of the fighting and the unbelievably linear nature of this game are all downsides. Some of the voices are excellent but most are not (Legolas sounds nothing like Orlando Bloom), and the graphics are, to say the least, cartoony and sometimes unclear.
Despite these problems, however, whenever I go home I generally spend some time playing this game, even though I've completed it twice. I can't think of anything much to say except that it is really good fun - not great, but fun. There is not much in any game that is quite so satisfying as taking down orc after orc with Legolas' bow, or hewing through uruk-hai with Aragorn.
I would advise getting this game to any casual gamers or any Lord of the Rings fans. Serious gamers, however, would do better to look for a slightly more open, more serious (and more difficult) game.( :

lOTR the return of the king is the best LOTR game going. the game was adictive but the graphics were a real let down, on co-op mode on the path of the dead legolas was slower than aragon, in shelobs lair when throwing fire at spiders on the floor they dont catch fire. the hidden charecters were a let down too. but overall the levels put you to the biggest test in the trilogy.
the upgrades are fantastic and the combose realy makes the fight come to life. a game wellworth buying.
Lord of the rings: return of another disapointment
Despite the fantastic fmv's and the spectacular theatrical soundtracks. LOTR:return of the king had to be one of the biggest disapointments ever. Forgetting all the good points mentioned before, the gameply is left to be desired as you can expect to go through the whole game button-bashing.Also completing levels can be frustrating with the annoying repitiveness of the levels. Also with the graphics, although owners of ps2 will look in amazement; all xbox gmers will feel as though the game has been half worked on.
Even if the film trilogy's were epic expect their game counterparts not to be, infact the complete reverse.
