Customer Reviews
Excellent workout but some cons
I bought this DVD after reading the reviews and I can say that I'm not disappointed at all. This is challenging enough for me and I have the feeling I have done a total body workout in just 35 minutes. I'm not fed up with it yet as it happens sometimes with other DVDs.
Pros:
- The various angles of filming that really help understanding the movements
- Some of the most difficult movements are explained in detail in the additional features
- 3 levels (beg, med, adv) are shown at the same time, you simply follow the person with the level you need
- Strong on abs. NOTE: Some reviewers complained about the neck strain. This is usually an indication that they are not doing the movement correctly (using their neck instead of their abs to lift their upper body.)
- You can turn off the music, the instructor or both and put subtitles instead
- Some movements are really interesting and challenging
Cons:
- The big no no has to be the warm up and the cool down basically reduced to a couple of movements
- No stretch sequence though this is absolutely necessary ideally before and after
- Pace can sometimes be too fast
I am quite fit so I didn't have really big problem keeping up with the workout but it can be tough. However after a week it's getting much easier. I would not recommend this DVD to ultimate beginners especially the ones who haven't practise any physical activity in a long time.
VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, JUST WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR
It is a measure of how pleased I was with this dvd that I am writing my first Amazon review! I have been looking for a pilates workout that gets to the point and challenges me, and they have it just right with this one. At last a workout where if you need extra pointers on particular exercises that is separate from the workout, so when you are doing the workout itself you do not get bored as exercises you do know are explained out every time. But if you are after relaxing pilates this is probably not for you, I had thought myself an intermediate, but needed to do beginner in some of the exercises included. I felt well challanged, the workout flowed swiftly and well, and this workout is one I can do a few times a week and really see results. I was drawn to it by previous reviews and they were right, do give it a try.
Not for beginners
I am at intermediate level at Pilates, and I struggle with this dvd. If you are a beginner I would not reccommend this as it does not teach you the basic principles of pilates. Which you need before you can feel the benefits of the exercises. It is also way too fast, and although the dvd states it is suitable for beginners, alot of the exercises I have to miss out as they are too advanced. I would only advise you to buy this dvd if you have been to pilates classes before and can apply the principles to it.
