The Quo, still rocking!
Anyone who says that quo are a joke and not a real rock band is talking through their rear end. Status Quo are every bit as much a rock band as cream, black sabbath, rolling stones, fleetwood mac (none of them have lasted as long as quo anyway, come on four decades?!)This DVD includes all of their promo videos (i think) and many rare live performances not to mention a hilarious commentary by Rossi and Parfitt in which they chat on about sideburns, flares & bell bottoms and deciding which drugs they were taking before each video! The music is as varied as ever with rocking heavy classics such as caroline, roll over lay down and rain, pop classics such as rockin' all over the world (the song your aunty always plays air guitar to at family reunions), burning bridges and wild side of life and all that lies between (which with quo is an awful lot). Call it what you want classic rock, heavy rock, pop rock, no nonsense boogie, 12 bar blues it's all here. This DVD is a fantastic tribute to a monumental band who have shown the world for years, outlasting everyone, what two best friends, a couple of worn guitars and three cords can do. A must have for all quo fans and all rock fans come to that.
Endless Boogie, posibily not that satisfying...
Undeniable for its value - (40 tracks), this highlights many of the flaws and the charm of the band that frankly many love to hate, but undoubtedly many still love. The '3 chord trick' has certainly has served them well. The selection of tracks is broad - a mix of earlier promotional 'live' tracks from the 70's, a couple of 80's 'vids' and a larger proportion of more recently recorded work in the '90/00's . Highlight, for me personally is a early rendering of' Paper Plane' which emphasises the gulf between a spirit youthful denim clad sweat soaked heads down noiseniks of the Quo of the early to mid seventies and the verging on embarrassing 'dads at a wedding' behaviour of the latter day years (too much synth not enough guitars!). To be honest the 'der dang daang' Quo trademark rhythm wore thin after half way through, but as a place to start video wise it's not a bad. However, if you value the classic years ('Piledriver' to perhaps 'Blue for You'), merely 'Mystery Song and the aforementioned Paper Plane fill these years. So a value led 3 stars - but there's probably better out there for a dedicated fan.
Not Good
This collection does not included the videos for the most recent hit, nor the next one. It does not include anything from the albums 'Thirsty Work', 'Rock 'til You Drop', 'Under The Influence', 'Perfect Remedy' or 'Ain't Complaining'. Some of the videos a nothing more than snippets of the songs (some of which were never singles, never mind hit's in the first place.) The promised commentary by Rossi & Parfitt only appears on half a dozen or so videos - and whilst they are chucklesome, they don't really lend anything to the legend of the band.
All in all a half-hearted mish-mash of a job, and not worth any of your hard earned cash. I'd give it nil stars if I could . . . and I'm a fan!
