a few high kicks!!!
this was the first big thompson twins album and ive only just got this rereleased version!
its a great 80's electronic album with more than a bit of class!
it features the singles "love on your side" and "lies" which are brilliant plus the wierd single releases "watching" and "we are detective" which i think are a bit too corny!and probably the worst songs on the album!!!
if you like "into the gap" you will love this is their second best album!
of the other tracks "if you where here" is beautiful and amazing, "kamikaze" is atmosheric and would fit well on "into the gap"!
"love lies bleeding" is good "all fall down" is as well!!!
plus you get 4 bonus tracks "lucky day" is a b-side and you can see why..the 3 remixes are a great inclusion!
THE TWINS SECOND BEST ALBUM .
'Quick step Side Kick' from 1983 is without doubt the album that launched the new pared down three piece band Tom bailey , Allanah Currie and Joe Leeway towards brief mega stardom. With the help of Allanah and a new producer the bands size and style was changed almost overnight. From a large go nowhere political fringe funk band to a cartoon style pop sensation. While the rest of the pop groups still clung on to the 'New Romantic' image which by then was fading the Twins set a new dance/synth trend. This is a very happy album and so different from there last 'SET' which was a commercial failure with only one pop track. This album with it's upbeat happy songs lifts it above many other pop acts of the era. 'Love on your side' , Lies , Judy Do , We are Detective , Lies are all brilliant songs and are not that dated even today. This album was a follow up to there best ever album 'Into the gap' in 1984. However 'Quick Step' taken as a stand alone album rates very highly indeed as a sample of perfect 80's syth/pop. It's a real pity that after two brilliant albums they lost there way, And failed to keep up with the moving musical trends so finally after 8 albums split up in 1992, which I suppose isn't a bad run. Of the CD there are three extra re-mix tracks which is a great move and well worth the 4 stars i have awarded this great album, go and buy this you won't regret it !.
