Editorial Reviews

From the Label
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Tom Rothrock (Beck, Elliott Smith, Badly Drawn Boy), Back To Bedlam takes the listener through heartfelt songs of unattainable romances, lost loves and friends failures before climaxing with James’s first-hand experience of war. Songs of universal appeal, all delivered with a powerfully unique vocal. In a world where division is rife and government intelligence (in both senses of the word) remains questionable, James’s songs override and unite.

Customer Reviews

To be blunt, James is superb !5
It's great to see the unanimous plaudits coming in already on the previous reviews here for this exciting new artist. From the moment James Blunt got up on stage as support act to Katie Melua, I knew that he was something special. It's not often you go to a concert where you enjoy the main act and the support.

This album contains some diverse styles of songs all written or co-written by James himself. There are hooks here that grab you immediately and the vocal range that James possesses is very wide.

My favourite tracks are the opening track (and hopefully hit single) 'High', 'Fire and rain', 'Cry' and the closing 'No bravery'.

The albums digipack presentation and glossy lyric book are also very impressive.

This deserves five stars despite its short playing time (just over 39 minutes) although sometimes, tracks stretched out and lesser tracks included don't always make an album any better.

Beautiful5
I bought this album after seeing the video for the single 'High' on some music channel showing new artists before they hit the charts, and I thought, not only is he sexy, but he can write a song and sing it too! I researched James for a day or so on the net and couldn't download anything on the free sites, so just thought oh well and bought the album. Which I usually do anyway after hearing a few singles and making sure its worth it, but, I knew this was something different and I didn't want to wait!

Its the greatest thing Ive ever done, and the most beautiful album ever made. Its perfect and my favourite, by far. There are no 'fillers' on here at all. I will even buy the singles just to hear the B sides, cos Im sure they are just as good. Its like Snowed Under, the B side on Somewhere Only We Know by 'Keane', it should have been on the album. Deffo.

Back to Bedlam...Its a bit, David Gray meets a depressed ex soldier who saw some nasty stuff and lost the love of his life...but in a very beautiful uplifting way. Some tracks, 2 & 4 especially will make you cry, where as track 1, the first single 'High' just makes me have a sly smile on my face as I ponder my life...

Every track is worth being a single. BUY IT NOW!

'High' point of 2005 musically5
Excellent! I saw this guy performing and being interviewed during Glastonbury and it struck me - here's something different, here's a guy who can speak coherently, write, play and sing and what a voice - crisp, clear, angelic and best of all pure British! Having heard the single 'beautiful' on the radio I was impressed and wanted to hear more. I will usually take the gamble with an album and this one really paid off. Please DON'T keep comparing him to David Gray! For me there is no comparison (not a fan of Gray's I'm afraid!) Adult warning: Excuse the 'rude' word in Beautiful, as it perfectly conveys his disappointment concerning his 'chemical condition' at the time in question!
This album contains 10 varied, yet 'on a theme' songs ALL high quality and thought-provoking!
Highlights - Beautiful, Wisemen, No Bravery, High, Out of my mind, then all the others! Tomorrow I'll change my mind and it'll be a different order. Contains a subtle reference to one of Blunt's heroes at the end of 'So long Jimmy' (Morrison)
Possibly Brit Album of the year? BUY IT - you owe it to yourself!
