Manufacturer's Description
Tens of thousands more viruses and virus-like threats exist this year than were identified last year and the numbers continue to grow. It's a worldwide problem that can make its way onto your computer, including the potential to pass these same threats on to other computers. With McAfee® VirusScan®, you can go online without the worry of getting a virus. McAfee VirusScan offers the freedom to save, share and send data over the Internet. Up-to-date anti-virus software is critical in keeping e-mail and downloads free from the latest strains of viruses, mass-mailing worms, Trojans, dialers, and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), such as spyware and adware, that invade and sometimes destroy computer hard drives. Automatic and virtually effortless, McAfee VirusScan helps you have a safe, complete online experience.
Easy to install and use, McAfee® Personal Firewall Plus continually safeguards your online communications, which is equally critical for both high-speed and dial-up Internet users. This essential protection works with DSL, cable modem, satellite, dial-up and wireless connections, and is easily configurable to protect single PCs or an entire home network. Personal Firewall Plus protects against the unauthorized access of your PC and personal data. Without a firewall hackers can steal your private information, such as credit card numbers, tax records, and passwords.

Safe surfing for life?
I bought this software as I was getting more and more worried about the threat of viruses infecting my home PC. My workplace has always used McAfee and I had always found it very easy to use and we have had no problems with viruses so far. So I invested in McAfee at home. After a few niggles installing the Virus Scan and the Firewall Plus I must say I am very pleased. The software runs quietly on my PC, only alerting me if anything suspicious happens and the Firewall blocks tens of events entering my PC everyday. The Security Center has a full analysis of what exactly has been blocked from your PC so you can investigate further if you wish. If you value your PC, like me, you really do need to protect it and this software is a good place to start.
This bundle is better than the Norton/Symantec equivalent
I had no problems with installation (as I did with Norton), had no problems with other software being incompatible (as I did with Norton) and my computer resources do no get hogged up by by firewall and antivirus (as with my experience of Norton). McAfee is a better bundle working quickly quietly in the background. Can't recommend it enough.
Happy Upgrade
If, like me, you did not upgrade to Virusscan version 8 because of Amazon reviews complaining about its tendency to dial up spontaneously for updates, I am pleased to say that I have not encountered this problem on the 2005 version (version 9); it seems to wait until you go on-line of your own free will before trying to update itself, like version 7 did. I upgraded from version 7 and McAfee Firewall version 4 and am very pleased. The firewall in particular is much better; the event log gives clearer explanations of what it has blocked and why, and it doesn't bother you so often with requests to allow traffic for recognised programs, and both products integrate with the Windows XP security. I have only two minor complaints: a spurious "Firewall disabled" report caused by a file left over from uninstalling the earlier firewall, resolved by deleting the file, and the fact that manually checking for updates is far more complicated than it used to be, involving entering your email address and password and using two facilities that Windows XP SP2 blocks by default.
