Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
It isn't exactly difficult to scoff at the Blues Brothers -- beginning your musical career as a sketch on Saturday Night Live is not the best way to develop artistic credibility, and while Elwood Blues wasn't too shabby a harp player, his brother, Joliet Jake, sang only marginally better than that guy who used to impersonate Joe Cocker on late-night television. But no one ever bought a Blues Brothers album expecting a life-changing musical experience -- these guys were there to put on a show, and putting on a great show is just what they did. It helped that Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi obviously loved the music, and they knew how to put together a killer band (any fan with the vision to hire Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Jordan, and Matt "Guitar" Murphy" to cover classic blues and R&B deserves credit for good taste, if nothing else). The Complete Blues Brothers pulls together material from the band's debut live album, Briefcase Full of Blues, as well as cuts from the soundtrack to The Blues Brothers movie (including contributions from Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin). Play it loud and dance a lot -- John would have wanted it that way. --Mark Deming, All Music Guide

CD Description
This release compiles the best tracks recorded by the spoofR&B band - started as a warm-up act for the TV show Saturday Night Live by comics Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi - which went on to become a bona fide music phenomenon. Performing upbeat versions of classic soul and blues hits, they introduced a whole new generation to the Stax and Motown sound and remain a cult hit even today, more than 20 years after Belushi's death.

Customer Reviews

A jumbo dose of Jake and Elwood and the Band in a double CD4
This album is frustrating to buy for those who have the rest of the albums, and only want to buy it for the 2 or 3 tracks that are not available on other albums. This CD would save you time in carting around 4 or 5 albums in your car, instead this album contains all tracks from the albums. Some of the live tracks have been faded out at the end, which takes away the feel of a live show, but then if you want a fluent live performance, you'd buy the "Briefcase Full of Blues" or the "Made In America" albums. A quality album for the music within it, if not for the way it has been assembled.

Brilliant music, played by brilliant musicians4
This is a great album to listen to, if nothing else to listen some of the best blues musicians EVER!!! Joliet Jake is no slouch at singing the blues, and what can you say about Elwood? His harp playing is fantastic!!

It features tracks taken from Briefcase, the OST, Made in America and the Best of.

The track listing does jump around a lot and some of the live tracks have been faded out. However don't let that put you off. The essence of the Blues Brothers is there.

Some of the outstanding tracks are 'Green Onions', a blinding version of 'I can't turn you loose', 'Messin' with the kid', to name but a few.

For those who have never heard of the Blues Brothers, where've you been? Start with this collection of cool tunes and make up for lost time!!

For those who already have heard of the Blues Brothers, if you ignore the short comings of this colleciton, then this collection will grow and grow on you.

Definitive...Definitely...5
This is called the Definitive Blues Brothers, and is a collection of Songs from the film and then some.
If you liked the film, you'll probably like this; as it has all the songs you know and love; you just can't help running the film scenes through your head during each song.
I play this whilst driving, and always end up with strange looks when I'm stationary,as I belt out the songs like a thing possessed. If you don't like Blues/Retro 60s feel music then this won't appeal to you;.This is for people who like this type of music anyway, not just because they liked the Blues Brothers film; it goes way beyond that, and some may get bored with the non-soundtrack songs.
Nevertheless, there are Blues fans and Blues Brothers fans, and this collection has enough to keep both types happy. I challenge you to keep your tailfeather still whilst giving this a spin....
