I have had this album for about a month now and at first I prefered Progress a lot more. Songs like "sell you beautiful" (in 5/4 time, you wont get it out of your head) and "mastering the list" stood out and the way RX Bandits have started messing around with timing to give a truly individual album. The progress from pop-punk to rock/hardcore is very welcome to my ears as I felt "progress" was too poppy in places. Instead this is a truly individual album, an amzing listen with uplifting lyrics, great guitars, superb rhythms- you'll know what I mean if you buy it- and individual horns and... glockenspiels. This album will make you move, buy it.

The RX Bandits are a surprising find on a label famous for its alternative chart bothering, entertaining and catchy punk rock. Sometimes, in the case of the Movielife; infected with light emotional hardcore. RX Bandits are a band that draws heavily from 'The Police' and occasionally 'Muse' most noticeable on the verse for 'Prophetic'. Add a razor edge and an intense insistency and you get one hell of a sparky, eclectic sound.

Intertwined with this urgency is a really laid back groove that implies all the time in the world is about to run out; Just not right this second. The more I think about this band the more I find that a sound comparison to Papa Roach crops up in my head. Anyone familiar with their first album; 'Infest' will be aware of the slow and groovy laden secret track nestling at the very end of the album. On songs like; 'Overcome...' This band sound strangely similar, even vocally. This is a rewarding and emotive style that not only enthralls but relaxes as the message is broadcast to the listener.

They use some low key elements of Ska; more 'Sublime' / 'The Police' than 'Less Than Jake'; as they deal with more sensitive issues like politics and enhancing body surgery. They are the masters of a successful and well arranged verse. Although there is feeling and emotion in their choruses; there is also an uncreative element to many throughout this album. Before you think that there are no crunchy riffs then take note of songs like; 'Mastering The List' with it's edgy opening guitar parts and tribal verse drumming leading it into a built up chorus.

'Look who's got a new nose, plastic lips and fake tits' from 'Sell You Beautiful'; this band are all about belting out no nonsense and honest lines like this that play on many different styles and because of this sometimes come off as half serious. That said; deep down there is a feeling of honest concern carried along on a much needed dose of laid back cynicism.

While 'Overcome...' is probably the most competent and excellent song on showcase here, the sheer variety of styles make this an exciting listen. I think you may find that you can't listen to the whole work in one sitting. Much like 'Alkaline Trio' - 'From Here To Infirmary' was dark and well written yet demanded so much that many found themselves listening to elements of it rather than the whole package.

I was impressed with this album. It was a welcome treat of complexity and emotion, without that hardcore or disjointed style favoured by Emo bands of late. While some songs may take time to surface in your mind as unique slices of a single work others will be instantly memorable masterpieces. Songs that will keep you coming back to the album until each song is a new favourite. RX Bandits are almost in a league of their own with this release as they revitalize us with some ironically laid back political and lyrically superior Ska.

Standout Tracks: 'Sell You Beautiful', 'Overcome (The Recapitulation)' & 'Mastering The List'

Well where do i start, hmmmmmm. Ok a quick brief history of there last 2 albums first. 1st album Halfway between.... This saw them playing there own brand of ska punk which a difference that most of the songs are very catchy and sound great but all pack a message. no2 Progress well all i can say is this album is one of my all time favorates the title progress is so apt and shows them moving away from being heavily influenced by ska although there is an underlying ska element in almost all the songs. Now onto this album as soon to be released in the usa i preordered a copy from america and get it 3 days before it was due to come out officialy over there. I didnt stop listening to ti for 3 days at first i was slightly dissapointed as it seems they have totaly forgot there ska past although there still is a lsight influence there but now they have grown and it shows. After listening to this album for so long the songs realy start to hit you as you listen to what each song is about once again every song ahs a ver powerfull message but is so not intrusive of your enjoyment of the songs and music.

ive given this album 5 stars the same as i gave progress although this album still in my mind is not as good as progress. If you like their older stuff beware dont go looking for a ska punk band because instead you will find a polished rock band with a ska history (which isnt a bad thing) that can write powerfull emotional songs about thing that effect every one of us in modern day life and pull it off so well.

so all in all buy this album if you have the other if you havent any of the others get this and progress you wont be disapointed. every single person i have lent those 2 albums to have become fans. Thast probably why the last time they toured here i brought about 15 people with me to see there awsome live performace.
