Just watch this album grow on you!
This is the second full album from Julie after Dexterity a couple of years ago. She would have struggled to beat such a good debut, however this slightly more chilled out effort is not half bad!
On the first listen, the songs seem to sound fairly similar, all being on a chilled soulful kind of vibe, but with more listens I found myself liking the album more and more. There's no big over the top production on this album, just real instruments and simple vocals that do justice on their own.
Standout tracks for me are Choices, Place For Us and Show Me Now. Another high point of this album are the lyrics, as I don't know about you but I get tierd of listening to the same old love songs. These songs are about life and experiences and have all been written by Julie herself. I also thought that the vocals are much improved since her first album. I love this album, give it a try and If you don't have dexterity by them both. Can't wait to catch her live sometime - come back to the UK!!
A hidden gem
British songstress Julie Dexter has made an album that, with the right promotion, could finally break her in the US market, if not back here in the UK.
Good lyrics coupled with understated production make this an album well worth adding to your collection. She is now right up there with the very best of the current crop of sophisticated R&B singers. Very, very good indeed.
