Manufacturer’s Description
In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.
Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their team mates. With in-game success, players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more.
Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons' ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.

greatest war game i've ever played!!!!
this game has everything to make it an original war game, you can play with 31 other players against 32 other players making that 64 PLAYERS ON ONE SERVER!!, with a good graphics card you can stick this game on full video settings and recieve top notch graphics and get no lag, plenty of other features aswell such as promotions through ranks from private to general, even be lucky enough to command your whole side and arrange supply drops which contain health, ammo and repairs for vehicles, UAV drops to find enemy soldiers to take them out and artillery strikes at enemy bases, become a leader of a strike team of 6 people to help you keep orginised, arrange orders such as attack, defend or move to certain places, multiple vehicles to choose from such as tanks, cars with turrets, several types of helicopters and even jets, and dropping bombs over a base and killing more than four people leaves you with a big smile on your face :D, with more weapons than the previous game you will have plenty of things to do whilst battling the enemy, choose from seven classes from special force, assault, medic, anti tank, engineer, sniper and support, meaning whatever you do you will have an impotant role to play to help your side, this game is tactical, strategic and requires everyone to work together to reach victory!!!
Epic
Although this game is now getting on for 2 1/2 years old, it still dominates the online combat gameplay world. As mentioned in other reviews, the game is clearly intended for online gameplay, as you will never get the same level of intensity using AI.
Essentially, the game is so good because of an excellent combination of beautiful, expansive battlefields, a massive range of vehicles (cars, tanks, helicopters, jets, boats...), a variety of classes (medic, assault, engineer, etc...) and perhaps most importantly the ease with which team work is achieved within teams each consisting of up to 32 players. The quick communications interface combined with scoring points for not only killing enemy, but for helping friendlies makes team-work almost inevitable. For example, if you click the "I need a medic" command, any medic nearby will be alerted and have a mark placed on his mini-map to find you with. If he then revives you, he scores points. On a higher level, the each round of gameplay a commander is elected who usually does not participate in the battle, but instead has a satelite view of what's going on. From his control interface, he can command squads (which any player can join, and provide an even greater element of teamwork), call in artillery strikes, give temporary radar coverage, and many other things. This leads me onto the VOIP within game. When a player joins a squad, in addition to the in game commands, if he has a microphone then he can talk to his fellow squad members (up to 6 in a squad). The squad leader can in turn talk to the commander, again developing the teamwork aspect.
Another important feature I believe is the balance between realism and fun they have achieved. This is not a game where you have to load another player with 40,000 rounds to kill him, yet at the same time its not a game where a pistol shot to the chest will kill you straight away. All in all, it makes for great gameplay.
As far as cons go, there are very few. If you are running the game on a low-spec machine, you may experience a low frame rate during intense times of battle (of which there are many). Other than that, nothing to think of.
Overall, an amazing game that will keep you occupied for hours on end if a realistic, team-based online combat game is your thing. If you have a powerful computer, a good surround sound system, and end up in a full on firefight you may actually believe you are in a real battle. Its that good.
Other points to consider.
The best game I have ever owned - period.
Why?
The mods available for this game.
Now the standard 'vanilla' BF2 is still great, and I still play it occasionaly aswell as the official EA expansion pack Special Forces.
What makes this 'The Best' are the excellent free downloadable mods for BF2.
There has got to be at least 25 optional modifications available for BF2 (at the time of writing)
Some put you in a different theatre of war. Some notch up the realism. some are largely ground based. Some major on air warfare.
The variation of countries you can fight for or against is amazing, along with all the relevant weapons that particular country uses. Each mod comes with brand new maps or modified originals (which often are superior to the original versions).
The mods I personally have at the moment are;
(In no particular order)
Desert Conflict.
Hard Justice.
Operation Peacekeeper.
Point of Existence 2.
Project Reality.
These are just a few of many possible mods available to add on to BF2. These five keep me busy enough as it is.
Now I would be lying if I were to tell you that the downloads are small. they range from about 300mb up to about about 1.5gb!!, but they really ARE worth the effort.
In my opinion these mods are better than the official ones from EA - even 'Special Forces' - which is very good. The quality, playability and obviously cost(they're free!)are excellent.
Each mod generally has its own webpage. Have a look for yourselves. Just type in any of the above mods into a search engine. They all have a thriving online community. I think you'll be impressed.
Note;
None of the above mods affect the standard game in any way. You can play one of the mods, then if you wish fire up the standard BF2 game and it will not be affected. These are addons, not replacements for the standard game.
They all come packaged with intelligent installers. So installing is hassle free.
Just a quick thanks to all the guys associated with any of BF2s mods.
You do great work, and have extended the life of a good game to such an extent that I never thought would be possible. Your all heroes.
