Synopsis
A star-studded cast provides the voices for the prehistoric creatures in this computer-animated feature set 20,000 years ago as the Ice Age approaches. Seemingly anti-social Manny, a woolly mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), acts as if he just wants to be left alone. When he meets Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), a sloth, the two become unlikely travelling companions. The plot thickens when the duo finds a human infant and decides to try to return the child to its 'herd'. Manny slowly but surely reveals his heart of gold, while Sid continues to provide comic relief. Diego (voiced by Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger with ulterior motives, soon joins them in their search for the humans. Ultimately, this group of misfits becomes its own herd, learning about friendship and loyalty as they brave snow, ice, freezing temperatures, predators, hail, and even boiling lava pits. All the while, a saber-tooth squirrel, Scat, provides comic relief as he valiantly struggles with an acorn. A well-written, humorous script and endearing characters mesh well with the state-of-the-art technology and effects. Other stars lending their voices to the feature include Goran Visnjic, Jack Black, and Jane Krakowski.

A beautiful film
A wonderful film that's both laugh-out-loud funny and incrediby touching. Without being twee or sugary, it tells the beautiful story an odd little disfunctional group that becomes a loving family, brilliantly demonstrating how the bonds of love and friendship and loyalty can help us get through anything.
It's a must-see for anyone, but can't help feeling it might be especially helpful to any of us who come from more 'unusual' families/backgrounds. In that respect, it reminds me of the equally wonderful Australian road movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert (don't laugh at that until you've watched them both). Both films share the same messages about how the families we 'make' can be just as important as the families we are born into.
Wonderful for children and adults, this is one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.
A real tear jerker
I LOVE this film. It focuses on the differences between the characters, then brings them together through loyalty to one cause, the saving of a life. Even when that life is different they still find the strength and loyalty to save it. This film is a perfect demonstration of the benefits of putting aside your differences and pulling together for one cause. I gotta admit that a few tears were shed when Diego was at death's door. You gotta see this fim, it works on so many levels and teaches us a lesson that we would all benefit from learning.
the BIG freeze has come to town
Well, to put it simply, this film is theperfect family film. It has all the necessary qualities: laughter, a good plot, and loveable characters. It focus' mainly on a mammoth, who gets stuck with a very annoying sloth, called sid. Together, they head the oppposite way from migration, and on their travels come accross a baby. With some persuasion from sid, and an eventual deal Manfred the mammoth helps sid return the baby to his dad and his group, before the snow gets too deep. The deal was that if manfred helped sid, the sloth would have to leave manfred alone. But films cannot be complete without a good old bad guy, even in these types of films. Diego is a fierce sabre-tooth tiger, who was appointed the task of kidnapping the baby from sid and manfred and taking it back to his pack where it would be eaten. Diego ends up leading the two into a trap, but saves them at the last minute, when he spills all. Scart, a prehistoric squirrel-rat, is ADORABLE!!!!!!!! i think that he makes the movie worth watching. He is forever trying to find a place to bury his beloved acorn for the winter, no matter what it takes.
Overall this is a fun packed ride and i recommend it to EVERYONE who likes a break :)
