Customer Reviews
one or two good things ,alot of average
No mercy 2004 contained the first ever last ride match and that meant that there was a definite interest in this event from the moment that was announced, but this event didnt showcase the very best of smackdown and that was a problem with smackdown brand pay per views around this time, they just couldnt find the right balance and as many have said some of these matches wouldnt have appeared that special as part of the smackdown show so on a pay per view, well,we have a problem.
The event opened with a poor match that seemed to go on and on and on,you get the idea im sure,it featured eddie guerrero vs luther reigns and this match didnt deserve as much time as it got, luther wasnt the worst that i have seen but he didnt do eddie any favours and both men suffered,i was as relieved as the winner when this was over.
The cruiserweight title was on the line next, the champ spike dudley went up against nunzio, this match was poor,if it wasnt for the interference of some people then this match would have been a disaster, this was horrible,at one point spike jumped off the ring apron and landed on his feet and then let out a roar and that was pathetic looking,he then looked very sheepish, that sums this match up,a disgrace to the division.
Billy kidman and paul london were once a formidable team but that soured and a feud was born, this was their match and after a wee bit of hype it arrived and with it came the first great match of the night, both men did themselves proud, they are similar in style but somehow they didnt cancel each other out,a good match.
The WWE tag team championships were contested next, the champions were kenzo suzuki and rene dupree and they went up against the exciting tag team of RVD and rey mysterio, this match was great, both teams busted their backs working here and it was exciting and it rallied by at some pace,a great match.
The next match was solid enough as well, the big show went up against kurt angle, they shared an acceptable in ring chemistry and it was eventful with some good moves and it did its job without excelling.
Next up was match five in the best of fove series for the united states championship, the two men who shared four encounters prior to the night were booker T and john cena, this match was ok but it was a mirror image of the four matches that went before, the commentators mentioned that as well and this meant that there wasnt anything new to see here,a fair to midland match and nothing more.
A six person tag team match was next as rico and charlie haas along with miss jackie and their oppenents were the dudley boyz with dawn marie,i found this match to be the very meaning of filler, granted there was a comical moment involving rico and bubba-ray but this was terrible and everyone involved showed signs of embarrassment as times, not good.
The main event was up next, the WWE champion JBL going up against the undertaker in a last ride match, meaning you had to throw your rival into the back of a hearse and watch him being driven off to win so everyone was eager to see how this went, and it went very well,it was brutal and kept itself interesting, there was a good ending to this as well that may or not come as a surprise but this was an entertaining and bloody brawl and its hard to fault.
The overall feel of the pay per view wasnt one that ranks high but there was some decent stuff all the same, but was let down by some very poor matches that wouldnt look out of place on the smackdown show,2 stars then.
