U2 - The Best Of 1990-20005

Amazon.co.uk Review
There just seems to be no stopping U2, whose Best of 1990-2000 demonstrates exactly why they are still one of the world's greatest groups. For a band who reached their peak with Achtung Baby (10 years after catapulting themselves into the music industry), the 1990s offered U2 the chance to reinvent and reform their ideas and these videos showcase their range of influences and achievements during the decade.
Obviously treated with the same attention and care as a movie release, this compilation delivers every single video produced for the band in the 90s and--to add a U2-style cut above the rest stamp on the release--each track is accompanied by a director's commentary. The collection kick-starts with "Even Better than the Real Thing", with its amazingly audacious camerawork, and also includes the never-before-released "The Ground Beneath Her Feet", directed by Wim Wenders and featuring Salman Rushdie. The commentaries range in quality; from the mesmerising Anton Corbijn's "One", to the rather dull and pointless commentary on "Even Better than the Real Thing". The compilation is of course a must-have for any U2 fan, but also a welcome insight into the process of video-making.

On the DVD: U2: The Best of 1990-2000 offers the sound in near-perfect 5.1 Dolby Digital, but the 4:3 aspect ratio will disappoint widescreen TV owners. Aside from the directors' commentaries there are also three behind-the-scenes documentaries: for "One" and the latest video "Electrical Storm", as well as "Missing Sarajevo", which relates the story behind U2's historic concert in the Bosnian capital. --Celine Martig

Good package of vids from the 'experimental' era5
I like the U2 era featured here on this DVD. The 90's were a period of much playful experimentation by the band. Most of it worked out well and pushed the band forward from the Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum desert rock rut they had got stuck in.

Some things however, clearly didn't work out!

But that's ok, and they don't shy away from showing the failures like Discotheque (middle aged men in a disco - c'mon lads...). So what we have here is a disc with all the good stuff on from the Achtung Baby to Electrical Storm era - classics like 'One' and all the others. There are some really great videos from this period that may have slipped by people such as 'Staring At The Sun' and Lemon.

Nicely presented disc with good menus and including mini featurette's of how some songs videos were created, as well alternative versions and a few nice easter eggs (inc. the infamous fish tank with swimming Trabants..).

Good stuff from the chaps, and a must for any U2 fan i'd say.
