"Children" connection misplaced
I expected that a DVD designed to raise money for a children's charity would make good family viewing. How wrong I was! I didn't expect to like every snippet - comedy is subjective, after all - but I also didn't expect so much childish vulgarity. It's sad that so many comedians go for the easy option of obscenity to make an effect. Sadly, too, it did seem to provide their audiences with a reason to laugh - presumably they were similarly immature.
There are some classics which it was wonderful to see again - the "poor contest" was terrifically covered, but I wondered at the choice of the Monty Python representative from the "Holy Grail". With so many brilliant sketches (the Ministry of Silly Walks and the parrot and cheese ones spring to mind), why choose that one??
Overall, a disappointment to me, but still possibly worth buying for the good stuff. If only we could erase the bits we didn't like!
A great way to raise money!!
Trying to think of a way to raise money for the Tsunami Appeal? Then buy this DVD, to raise money and for the entertainment. Featuring clips from the World's greatest stand-up comedians, films and televsion comedy. Each clip 2-5 minutes in length.
Including The Office, Little Britain, Four Weddings, Pink Panther, Wallace & Grommit, Monty Python, Lily Savage, Rising Damp, Ricky Gervais, Eddy Izzard, Royale Family, Bo Selecta, Fawlty Towers, Bob Hope, Jack Dee, Carry On Films, Laurel and Hardy, Alf Garnet, Creature Comforts, Liar Liar, The Producers, On The Beat, The Blues Brothers, Tommy Cooper, Taxi, Jimmy Carr, Men Behaving Badly, Father Ted, Have I Got News For You, American Pie and many many many more all on this DVD.
The Tsunami may be no laughing matter but just buying this will help someone or some-people, an average of £8 out of £9.99 will go to UNICEF UK to try and raise 1 million pounds for the appeal. So take my advice and BUY IT!!!
Great idea but could be much funnier
It is a brilliant way of raising money for charity, but, sadly, it is certainly not the best comedy dvd in the world. Many of the clips are not that good. It is very patchy and there is much great stuff not included - nothing from Only Fools and Horses, Good Life, Dad's Army, Porridge, Vicar of Dibley to name but a few. Even the clips included are often not the best from the shows represented. If it wasn't for the charity aspect this would get a whopping "nil points".
