Synopsis
A name that is synonymous with 1970s rock, Emerson, Lake and Palmer have some of their career highlights gathered here. The band typified the prog-rock noodling of the early '70s, with keyboard player Keith Emerson frequently peppering their offerings with lengthy solos that demonstrated his seemingly limitless abilities. Their live shows were as loftily ambitious as their music, with each tour offering bigger stage sets, longer songs, and a blissful experience for ears that were finely-tuned to a popular trend that soon became wildly unfashionable with the dawning of punk rock. This eclectic collection brings together various oddities such as TV appearances, promotional videos, a documentary about the band, and a 44 minute jam from a 1974 California festival.

ELP a real record at last
I saw ELP on their first ever tour back in 1971 and have, for years, wanted to see again the way they were back then. To see 'Take a Pebble' from that era is a real treat - even if it is photographed in the typical 70's way with the shots jumping out at you when all you really want to see is to watch the band perform one of their greatest songs.
There is a great selection of songs from pretty much all of their career along with some excellent bonus footage although there is some that is really for the diehard fan, particularly their rehearsals from 1973 which at times drag a little.
Overall, however, this is an excellent value DVD and is a must for all fans and I cannot imagine a better testament to a truly innovative band. I have to say that it made me think once again that they should put any differnces aside and get out there and do what they do best - play together (and do they really want 'In the Hot Seat' to be their last original work?)
A fan of ELP for over 30yrs Opinion
I'm very impressed with this latest offering on DVD , especially the rare clips( too many to mention)from the golden era (73/74 ) Carl Palmer on the Aquarius TV programme to the Brain Salad Surgery Rehearsals. The whole package is a must for any Progressive Rock Fan.A very honest/fascinating account of probably one of the greatest groups in the history of rock !
It's worth every penny and more, the quality is superb both visually & sound there's obviously been a lot of effort been put into the making of this 2 DVD set. On a scale of 10 it's got to be 11 out of 10 !
A must for any ELP fan
This DVD only highlights the lack of classic footage being released by groups who had their hayday in the 70's. It features excellent footage of the group performing throughout this period & all of it is a joy to behold as an Ardent fan of the band. Every menu is littered with rare footage & Live music & even 2 weeks after buying it I'm still finding new things to watch.
The only criticism for me is that there isn't enough footage from the California Jam (which Carl Palmer considered to be their greatest ever performance), I would have loved to have seen them perform Tarkus in it's entirety around that time.
An excellent DVD though & one which I hope other '70's bands without anthology-type packages will take note of....
