After a successful couple of outings on the PSone, it’s been a bit of mystery as to what’s happened to Sir Daniel Fortesque (deceased). In MediEvil: Resurrection, he returns from the grave yet again, for a welcome new PSP outing that breathes new life into his undead adventures.

The MediEvil games don’t do anything especially original or taxing -- they’re simply very well designed action adventures with a nice line in comedy situations, particularly the craven coward that is Sir Dan himself. This PSP game is, however, completely new, with a much improved combat system and a lot more weapons to employ.

Naturally the graphics are greatly improved from the PSone games, and indeed this could be the best looking of all the PSP launch titles, with some beautifully subtle lighting and impressively complex levels and enemies. The gameplay itself is a bit shallow, but played in small doses – as the portable format encourages – you’re unlikely to get tired of it before the end.

As an extra bonus, there are also eight wireless multiplayer mini-games, none of which are of any real consequence but perfectly entertaining with a few friends. Comedy rarely works in video games but the amusing ineptness of the "hero" marks a welcome return for one of gaming’s lost sons. -- Harrison Dent

Nothing revolutionary, but awesome all the same!
Medievil Resurrection was the first game I experienced on Sony's new PSP. I have not owned a Sony console before nor have I played the original Medievil games for the original PS. I selected this game over the many other launch titles because it was exclusive to the European PSP launch and I hadn't heard much about it. From the little I could gather, it promised to be a comedic 3rd person adventure set in a colourful, cartoon environment.
I was not to be disappointed. From the opening cutscenes to the concluding credits this title, published by Sony's Cambridge development house, is laugh out loud material. The voice acting, led by Tom Baker from Doctor Who and Little Britain fame, is superb - the best I've heard since a Lucas Art's point and click adventure. The graphics are sharp and detailed and really bring the characters to life and the controls are tight. However, this game's most outstanding feature is its soundtrack. Fitting in somewhere between the score from Tim Burton's Batman films and his Nightmare before Christmas classic, the music in this game really draws you (and anybody else who is remotely close to you) into the game.
You play the role of Sir Daniel Fortesque, a solider who was killed defending the realm of Gallowmere in a heroic battle a century ago. After the battle Fortesque was heralded a hero, although as you're frequently reminded, this was not quite the case. Brought back to life by the Evil Sorcerer Zarok, who has also resurrected his evil Undead army, it falls to the feet of cowardly Fortesque to stop Zarok at any cost and earn the accolade "Hero of Gallowmere".
As Fortesque you will explore the large realm of Gallowmere (with a total of 18 different levels), including a Ghost Ship, some Haunted Ruins, an Enchanted Forest and an Asylum.
As a gamer with plenty of experience under my belt, this game took me somewhere between 15 and 20 hours to finish and I enjoyed every minute. The humour works on many levels, and much like the TVs the Simpson's, different age groups will find it funny for various reasons.
Medievil Resurrection is definitely worthy of your time and money. It is by no means a revolution in gameplay, but the delight of experiencing Medievil on a portable system is hard to measure. Recommended!

Excellent game
Mediveil Resurrection takes place in the land of Gallowmere where a Great battle was fought. The evil Sorcerer Zarok has rose again turning the world upside down. As a result of this Sir Dan Fortesque has also arisen and begins his mission to become the Hero in Death that he never was in Life, and to send Zarok back to his grave!

If you have ever played the original versions of Medievil 1 and 2 for the Playstation 1 you will remember just how enjoyable this game is, nothing has changed with the new version for the PSP its jam packed full of the things that made the original such a hit.

Step by Step review

Gameplay- Perhaps the most important factor in a game is Gameplay, Medievil resurrection certainly doesn't disappoint. The range of gameplay in this game is very broad ranging from your odd skirmish with a few dead zombies or a run it with a mighty boss. In the game there are eight mini games playable via your PSP's Ad Hoc wireless mode but the game provides over 70 more mini-games that are solo play only, they are all fun to play and great on multiplayer. Medievil resurrection is a lengthy game consisting of 19 single player levels each one is unique and has its own twist. The game is a perfect Blend of comedy, action, puzzles and most importantly it's incredibly fun to play. Not many games can achieve such a perfect Balance but Medievil resurrection pulls it off.

Graphics- Naturally the fact that the game is on the PSP means that the graphics are going to be superior to that of the original Playstation 1. Although I have seen better on the PSP this game ranks within the top 5 PSP games for graphics. Although as I said they aren't the best the PSP has seen they are still beautiful to look at on the PSP's massive screen, it is clear that some very high quality work has been done on the games graphics and it's obvious when you see them. I would have rated the Graphics as a 4 but because of the beautiful 100 cut scenes included in the game the graphics rating has to be a definite 5 out of 5.

Sound- As always on the PSP the sound quality is top Notch there are lots of sounds to be heard in this game and they are all excellent quality. The sound effects are all top notch and the Voice acting is excellent although sometimes I think sometimes that mood music could be used but this is just my opinion so I only docked half a mark of the sound review total.

Controls
The controls in the game are relay easy to get used to and the camera is just nice not mush else can be said about them.

Characters- As mentioned above you play the cowardly Soldier Sir Dan Fortesque raised from the dead by the evil sorcerer Zarok. When it comes to enemies there are there are over 30 different enemies to be fought ranging from the almost normal to the down right Bizarre each will provide you with a different challenge some being harder than others. Those who loved the original Medievil will be happy to know that the characters from the original game live on in this resurrection of the Medievil franchise and some new ones including the new and elusive Al Zalam the sarcastic genie who is trapped in Sir Dans hollow head his comments can be helpful or not.

Weaponry/combat- There are over 20 different weapons to choose from, you start off the game with a few and as you pass each of the 19 levels in the game you unlock them in the Great hall of fame from then onward they are accessible for Dan to use. The weapons are some of the original game including Dans throwable skeleton arm, the crossbow, the broad sword there are plenty to choose from. When you access the Crypt room in the game Dan is then able to learn combat moves. In total there are over 200 different accessible combat moves and combos that Dan can use against the enemy.

Learning curve- The game has a learning curve of about 30 minutes or less. The menus are all labelled clearly and are easy to navigate. Once you get into this game like I did you wont be able to put it down at all it's is extremely easy to use.

Overall- Clearly Cambridge studios worked extremely hard to make the game of such a high standard its easy to use, it looks beautiful, it sounds amazing, this definitely deserves a maximum mark score. To me this is the best PSP platformer out at the minute and my favourite game. It has an excellent replay factor and will be played over and over again by myself.

MediEvil : Resurrection (PSP)
I loved this platform game when it was on PSone and felt very excited when I heard it was coming to the PSP.

This is great fun to play and easily the best PSP platforming game out yet.

You play as Sir Daniel Forteque, a cowardly soldier raised from the dead by a wizard so he could fight once more.

The moment I saw this game being played by a friend I thought the graphics where much better than the PSone graphics yet the PSP has seen better.

There is much to do; Explore levels while slashing monsters with your sword, and other weapons that you collect later in the game.
There are also many entertaining mini-games, and Wifi multiplayer action which is the greatest improvement on the PSone version.

The main story mode is pretty difficult and will take alot of time aswell as luck and skill. The only real bad thing about this game is the camera, but after a while you slowly get used to this.

All in all this game isn't an essential, but still a very great game that is worth buying for both gameplay and comedy.
