Editorial Reviews

CD Description
With A GHOST IS BORN, Wilco continues in the melancholy andexperimental direction of the preceding YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT. Those intrigued, if not downright fascinated, by Wilco's transformation from a no-frills alt-country group to an unpredictably inventive avant pop ensemble will find plenty to marvel at on this fifth outing.
"At Least That's What You Said" begins the album quietly with Jeff Tweedy's ragged voice singing softly over a gentle piano line, but the song soon gives way to gloriously tattered guitar soloing and full-band backing. "Hell Is Chrome" follows with Tweedy taking on a surprisingly plaintive vocal tone that hearkens back to 1970s soul ballads, while the nearly 11-minute "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" glides along on Krautrock-like keyboards and features more fierce guitar work. This isn't to say that Wilco has abandoned its sense of melody and pop songcraft, it's just that the group has found new ways to express these aspects of its sound. A GHOST IS BORN continues Wilco's remarkable streak of innovative albums and upholds their reputation as one of America's most adventurous rock bands.

Another Great Release From Wilco4
Despite what the other reviewer has said, Wilco can hardly be accused of ripping off their fans. This new 2cd version of the album has 5 extra tracks, but as anyone who knows this band can tell you, the band has offered a lot of downloads from their website, so Wilco are clearly not to be lumped in with other acts who do rip off fans!

fabulous album, honest band5
Wilco's best album yet! This band keeps getting better no matter how many line-up changes they make. As usual Tweedy is on fire both lyrically and musically. With two Grammy's to it's name there is no reason why you shouldn't own this album. Not even the fact that it's a re-issue with extra tracks because of course the original release was enhanced so those that bought it (minus the five extra tracks) could download these tracks at no extra cost!(like i did) So those who say this is a rip-off obviously know nothing, and don't own this amazing piece of art. Trust me, this is a fabulous album by an honest band.

Best Wilco album to date5
Being a huge fan of the likes of Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown and most things alt.country, I bought this album knowing it wasnt going to sound much like that genre...in fact there's nothing alt.country about this album at all. However, this is without a doubt Wilco's best album since AM...and possibly ever !

Its difficult to catagorize this album, its just a great rock/guitar album and in parts reminded me of Yo La Tengo, other parts the Afghan Whigs, but generally this is a pretty unique sounding album. Wilco DO NOT rip fans off incidently..I'm pretty sure this album, or YHF, was available for download on their website, along with many other tracks. Buy this, you wont be disappointed !
