Music with wit
As with Original Pirate Material, Mike Skinner combines good music with witty narrative lyrics, in one of the best records of 2004.
Mike Skinner - the story teller.
After buying, and loving The Streets first album I thought they couldnt improve. I couldnt be further from the truth. The album runs like a story board in the life of Mike Skinner from a dodgy wedding, a wild holiday with the boys to the break up of his cheating girlfriend and then to the smash hit that is 'Dry your Eyes'. Its almost a autobiography written for music. Its touching and for anyone whos lived can associate with the words that Mike Skinner delivers with both cheek and sincerity. What makes me warm to The Streets albums is always the last track. Skinner always ends on an upbeat note and thats how all good stories should end.
melody heaven
the sublime and delicate melodies of this performer are underrated by many - but he is surely the finest artist at his craft the British establishment has ever let loose upon the world. His understanding of strings is angelic and perhaps only outdone by his Keats-like grasp of Romantic lyricism.
