CD Description
Brooke Valentine makes quite a first impression on the opening single of her debut album, CHAIN LETTER. As much a declaration as a song, "Girlfight" announces Valentine's commanding presence with unquestionable authority, as she throws down a supremely catchy tune, abetted by crunk king Lil Jon andOutkast's Big Boi.
While CHAIN LETTER boasts some high-profile cameos, not one of them is phoned in or wasted. Valentine's sultry, decisive voice stands on its own, and guests are only brought in as embellishments. The late Dirt McGirt (AKA Ol' Dirty Bastard) offers another reminder of why he was such a sought-after collaborator on "Blah Blah Blah", an immediate classic where Valentine spins around the usual male"playa" song as she toys with a pleading boyfriend. Throughout the record, Valentine possesses the control of Janet Jackson at the top of her game, whether touting her own sexuality ("Taste of Dis") or giving the ultimate kiss-off to an ex("I Want You Dead"). A hip-hop chanteuse with spark to spare, Brooke Valentine opens her solo career on a strong note with CHAIN LETTER.

A Promising New Star
Brooke Valentine is a relatively unknown she's been on the circuit since last year I remember hearing the lead single "Girlfight" a few months ago on a mix-tape I thought it was a fantastic song. Her album was released on 15th March 05 I thought I'd check it out so here's my track by track
1.Girlfight (Featuring Big Boi & Lil' Jon) - The lead single it been around for a while I used to really like it. It's produced by the crunk&b master Lil'Jon also featured on the track is fellow Atlantian Big Boi from Outkast this is one of the strongest cuts on the album 9/10
2.Taste Of Dis - A mixture between Janet Jackson and Mya this track is a cool slice of pop, her voice is really nice this song is defiantly one for the clubs 8/10
3.Long As You Come Home - Sampling the much over used Camp Lo classic "Luchini" I hope she doesn't make this her 2nd single coz I feel she won't get anywhere its an ok song its just a bit repetitive and its drags 6/10
4.Blah, Blah, Blah (Featuring Dirt McGirt) - The beat is the same one Rachael Steven's used on "Sweet Dreams My L.A X" this song isn't bad but it just reminds me of that terrible Rachael Stevens track the late ODB is featured on this (R.I.P) 5/10
5.Cover Girl - I feel this is the strongest track its very Mya its airy and a nice little acoustic number. This track shows Brooke's vocal potential she sings about being someone's cover girl in other words just being real with her man with not make-up and all the "glitz" of her job she just wants to be he's girl it's a really nice song hope it's the 2nd single 10/10
6.Playa (Featuring Jermaine Dupri) - This wasn't on the original tracklisting it just seems like a filler to me a JD leftover its rubbish! 3/10
7.Ghetto Superstarz - In terms of production this song is the most original it's a weird song the lyrics are your basic cookie cutter but the beat is what sets the whole song off you need to hear this its fantastic 10/10
8.Tell Me Why? (You Don't Love Me) - The song is a pleasant one her voice on this track is a bit like the fantastic Teedra Moses. Brooke simply wants to know why her man doesn't love her it's the no ballad you think its gonna be its up-tempo I especially like towards the end with the music box sort of beat it's cute 7/10
9.Million Bucks (Featuring Queen Deliz) - Have no idea who Queen Deliz is but I really don't care I can't stand this song is so boring 2/10
10.I Want You Dead - This song is funny it's a great revenge song she's sick of her ex so she wants him gone hehe u gotta listen to this its so funny you cant help but like it 9/10
11.Dying Of A Broken Heart - Slows the tempo down to a really heartfelt ballad its another strong track I prefer her ballads the production is more thought out like the beat on this song is compliments her voice nicely this song is for anyone who's ever been hurt emotionally 10/10
12.Pass Us By - Beat is nice a electronic funky song it's a really good song listened to this one a few times its grown on me a lot its really catchy 10/10
13.Laugh 'Til I Cry - Another nice laid back ballad Ciara wouldn't feel outta place singing this song its really beautiful it's a bit like track 11 if you liked that you'll like this 10/10
14.American Girl - To me this song says to me "Ashlee Simpson didn't want it so Brooke took it" it's a really rubbish song 2/10
15.Whatcha Looking At (Featuring J.A.H) - She's tried going dancehall...hasn't really worked coz I'm not feeling it 4/10
Top 5
1.Cover Girl
2.Dying Of A Broken Heart
3.Ghetto Superstarz
4.Girlfight
5.Pass Us By
She has a lot of potential but sadly this album comes up short apart from Girlfight the rest of the songs are poppy Mya leftovers (Mya would make them much better). Brooke is at her best singing ballads the album needed more.
Another Crunk & B Diva
This is a good debut album from the 19 year old singer/songwriter from Houston, who co-wrote all the songs in one four month period. Combining R&B, Crunk and Hip Hop, all the songs reflect a woman's point of view, sometimes taking extreme points of view as in "I Want You Dead", which is about revenge for a broken heart.
First single "Girlfight" brings us the catchy Crunk drum machine rhythms made popular by Lil' Jon (the Crunk king) and which can also be found on the Ciara album. The song was produced by Lil' Jon and features Big Boi of Outkast.
Other tracks to note are "Long As You Come Home", the catchy "Blah Blah Blah" with the late Ol' Dirty Bastard, the Janet Jackson style girl power song "Taste of Dis".
Though all the songs are quite good, there's nothing particularly outstanding or different to distinguish Ms. Valentine from the other talented female singers around, and it will be interesting to see where she goes from here.

EXCELLENT!!!!!
This has to be one of the best R&B albums ever. One of the best things about Chain Letter is the variation of music from R&B to Hip-Hop to Rock. And brooke Valentine has a fantastic voice as well as being hot!!!
