Manufacturer's Description
Guild Wars is a competitive online roleplaying game that rewards player skill. Players explore a rich fantasy game world, acquire skills, build personalized characters and compete in head-to-head guild battles with friends around the world. It is the first title from ArenaNet, which was founded by key members of the creative teams behind the hit games Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo, and the creators of Battle.net.
In addition to the game itself, the Guild Wars Collectors Edition will contain a full-colour art book, the official music sound track, a Logitech headset, and an exclusive in-game item, the Divine Aura.

Correction
I would like to correct some erroneous statements about Guild Wars made by STARSBarry.
Firstly, MMORPG means Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. All of the definitions which I have found specifiy this as being "a multiplayer computer role-playing game that enables thousands of players to play in an evolving virtual world at the same time over the Internet". I would like to point out that there are indeed thousands of players playing GW at any given time. The fact that it splits each city into districts only serves to improve the game's performance and you are perfectly capable of switching districts if you so wish and the district you wish to go to is not full.
Secondly, the maximum party size is eight as you would no doubt have found if you had played the game for long enough.
Thirdly, this is one of the most beautiful games visually that I've ever played and I've played quite a few in my time. I find the gameplay most enjoyable with the new content that is frequently added and the very social aspects of it are what really makes it for me.
I bought the game on the off chance as a stopgap while I was waiting for the release of Oblivion (a game I was eagerly anticipating for months) and I have become so immersed in it that I am still spending far more time playing Guild Wars after receiving my copy of Oblivion - to me that speaks for itself.
The fact that you get all this with no monthly fees is a big plus. I can't really comment on the PvP and GvG side of things as I prefer the co-operative RPG element myself but I love the fact that the results of PvP battles affect the rest of the world with certain places only being accessible when our region is victorious.
In my opinion there is lots to love about this game but be warned that you are likely to sacrifice many hours of your life playing it!
Guild Wars, introduction to MMORPG
Guild WARS
MMORPG
NO MONTHLY FEES
These are the reasons i got this game, and im sure loads of players around the globe enjoy this game due to the same reason.
However, once i started playing the game i realised it was much more than just another mmorpg, its style, visual art, music, gameplay, stratagy was all in fine tune. did i mention this game looks wonderfull visually ;)
Also for all u laggers out there, this game may help, it laggs not very often at all, its engine downloads small chunks of info at a time, as not to overwhelm your little pc :D
Also the rpg element in this game, is surprisingly well done, not just something they stuck in to give the game content, its a really good story with compellign characters and plot. :D
Character build is a very obvious aspect of the game, create your characters, distribute attribute points, dish out skills, which all work together and give a great sense of achievement when u start dishing out the pain on another player in pvp combat, or nail a boss in a mission u started :)
So lets re-cap
Great MMORPG game ( online, with LOADS of players)
Wonderfull community of gamers
Good defence against LAG
No monthly fees
Theres much more good points to this game, but you'll discover those once u get it ;)
However lets look at the bad points ( i only have 2 :p)
Learning Curve
it takes a while to get used to, and like all mmorpg's there are only basic guidelines to aide you, so you'll find yourself askign a lot of questions to players in-game ( which is actually ok, seen as teh gamers in this community are really great :D)
Same old thing ?
Well...yes and no,sometimes it seems liek your character is becoming quite repetitive, same old monsters, attacks, misisons. But the solution is really teh players you game with, in mmorpg's interesting people, make great gaming experiences, team up with some mean bean players, and you'll have a great time.
5/5 =D
Great game with NO MONTHLY CHARGE!
My wife had to buy this game very soon after seeing me play it, now we play together almost every night. Excellent gameplay, huge area to explore, great fun.
You can either play with computer henchmen in your team, or team up with others - your call. This means you are not reliant on weeding out the idiots to have fun.
Importantly, there are no monthly fees, and you don't need a credit card to register. This is an error in the description.
Overall, this game is taking up an enormous amount of our time and we are thoroughly enjoying it. Buy the standard edition though, not this collector's one.
