Manufacturer's Description
SACRED The new name in Action-RPGs. SACRED delivers a huge, elaborate world comprising 16 regions beset with heroic quests, battle-hardened warriors and horrific enemies. Ancaria consists of highly detailed landscapes, complete with villages and towns, and also features a day/night cycle with varying weather systems. Regions vary from forests and mountains to deserts, catacombs and ice-covered landmasses. More than three quarters of the world is open to the players from the very start no unlocks needed
SACRED Plus - Incorporates all of the feedback from the player community since the first release of SACRED. This includes an enhanced multi-player experience, an optimized interface, and many completely new features: two new regions, two additional main quests, new item sets and weapons, and many new creature types which make adventuring in Ancaria even more dangerous.
SACRED Underworld - Ancaria is facing a threat far greater than ever before. The now familiar world continues to evolve, with existing SACRED players able to import their old characters into the Underworld.

An excellent game - one to keep you up nights
I am especially fond of Diablo and Diablo II and this game is of a similar type but in my opinion is an improvement. The world is massive and every region has its own music, characters, monsters to battle and atmosphere. The fact you can choose between many different protagonist types is also a cool feature -Battle Mage, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Gladiator, Vampiress and Seraphim (if you get Sacred Underworld which is a good addition you also can choose Daemon and Dwarf). Each character has its own spells, special moves, combos, unique armour, weaponry and abilities which means this game will last a long time and has good re-playability as you can wander the game's world as much as you like completing side-quests if you want to.
The main story is also quite compelling and following the main quests does drive you to want to do more and more (danger of keeping you up late nights). The twisting plot of Ancaria is involving and you end up being a central hero to the narrative. You help Prince Valor, son of King Aarnum throughout against the evil Baron De Mordrey and the demon-bringing Shaddar.
Overall this is a quality game and well worth the money - all I can say is if you love RPGs or Diablo it's a must have. Even if you don't but you like combat games I'd recommend it. The music and special effects are first class, the feel and atmosphere of the game is excellent and the sheer size and variety of realms you explore is enough to wet the tastebuds. If I have any criticism (and I don't really) it is merely that some of the voice acting is quite laughable and at times the game can seem like a cartoon in nature. This isn't a real criticism anyway as this can provide welcome amusement and a little comedy in the game that I'm sure the designer's intended. This game is a work that must have taken a long time to produce and the game designer's can be proud of it - they have taken the Diablo framework and waved a magnificent wand over the material to make it fresh and improved.
Buy it right away people and I can also heartily recommend its companion Sacred Underworld which adds even more to the game map and an additional two characters to the character selection.
Sacred Praise and a Warning
This game is so good, this is the second time I've bought it. The characters are beautifully modelled and the pickups, armour/weapons/etc which are fabulous and interesting, enough to keep you from getting bored with the never-ending buying and selling you always have to do upgrade your character. Being an 'elf freak' I love the wood elf and dark elf characters best, but the Vampiress is the funniest with her graveyard humour. A Gladiator and Seraphim are the other alternatives, very original, all with their own moves and style. The story is good, as are the quests. Some of the dialogue and bits and pieces lying about in dungeons are rather gruesome, which is nice. So I recommend the game very highly.
Just a word of warning. I tried to follow Sacred with the Underworld expansion and for some reason it crashed and when finally, under options I tried the other (not reccommended) alternative which is something like adding the games on to each other, I messed up my Sacred disk. So that's why I'm writing this, and buying Sacred Gold, this time. I've also want to add that you must have both the games either UK or US versions. Some kind person had that on their website.
Good game, with problems
The game in itself is very good, very entertaining with some interesting challenges. The problems that I have encountered are to do with trying to play on the internet, the keys that come with the game do not work when you try to connect to a multiplayer game, in any of the three formats listed (open game, closed game or LAN connection). I have been sending repeated e-mails to Ascaron trying to get this problem solved, since Jan. 2nd, and the e-mails seem to be ignored. Customer service from the maker of the game is virtually non-existent. My recommendation is that if you are buying this game for multiplayer use, look for another option.
