Manufacturer's Description
Get the most from your iPod with the ER-6i Isolator earphones, which deliver plush, clear tones to your favorite tunes. The phones are compatible with any portable audio player with a 3.5 mm stereo plug, though the stylish white earpieces and cord look straight out of the iPod playbook. The phones are also lightweight and compact, fitting conveniently in a shirt pocket, purse, or iPod carrying pouch. The elite audio performance derives from the phones' high overall sensitivity and the noise-reducing design, which reduces environmental sound levels by 30 to 35 dB, allowing listeners to hear the full range of today's digital recordings without having to play them at extreme levels. The design also reduces distortion and improves clarity. Users who are particularly attuned to fluctuations in audio quality will appreciate the filter changing tool and pair of replacement filters. When a filter eventually gets dirty and reduces the earphone's output, the listener can install a new filter in minutes. Whether your component of choice is a portable MP3 player, CD player, DVD player, or laptop, the ER-6i Isolator earphones are a great fit. The phones come with a shirt clip that keeps the cord close to the vest and a storage pouch.

    superb5
After trying 3 other sets of headphones and being dissapointed with them (2 of them Sonys for the £30-£40 range) the Etymotics arrived a couple of days ago. Yes, £80 is a lot of money for headphones (especially when using with an ipod) but the sound quality is amazing. I don't know why some say the bass is awful. It's not. No, it's not as atificially high as say the Sonys, but more natural and balanced. To get the bass right does require a good fit and seal in the ear though. If you need more bass, you can always put the eq onto rock which has an effect, but I prefer having the eq off for all music.
I'm a professional musician and I'm now hearing things in my regular listened to tracks that I didn't know were there. Really good clarity, eg the string pig playing on jazz albums really stands out, and classical music is lovely on these phones. They really pick out individual instruments. Add to that they look great, are comfortable, block outside noise and were designed (in looks as well) for the ipod then I can't fault them. You may want to import some music on a high bitrate though, as they will pick fault with low quality imports because they're so detailed.

Brilliant headphones that happen to be for portables5
These are very high quality headphones. I own many top quality audiophile headphones including a Stax Lamdba/SRM1 electrostatic home system, Sennheiser HD580, Sennheiser HD280, and Grado SR80. The Etymotics ER6i in-ear phones are in the same league. I've even recently been listening to them at work in preference to my Sennheiser HD280. And the ER6i is a small discrete portable package that sounds just as great driven by an iPod or minidisc. I bought them for use on the train and bus hoping they would get me close to what I've come to expect from headphones. I never expected them to better some of them. Brilliant.

Only going backwards will you notice the difference5
When i first got these buds i thought the sounds was amazing, good bass and treble but the questions i really kept coming back to was were they really worth the cash at 2.5 times the cost of my Sony Mdr-Ex81 (Which if you are on a budget are the only way to go for the price there is nothing like them)

So all the while listening to my Ety's this thought was going around and around my head were they really worth the price and i can say it was only when i went back to the Sonys for a day that I immediately realised how superior the Ety's are simply mind blowing. If you got the cash you really need a pair also they are a perfect Ipod match (hence the I in the title)

Hope that helps any budding audiophiles about to take the first leap
