Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Not as baroque as Rufus Wainwright, and more downtown than Matchbox Twenty, but embodying elements of both acts, Gavin DeGraw's J Records debut, Chariot is a strong showcase for his soulful wail and piano playing. DeGraw's willowy vocal on opener "Follow Through" brings to mind Jeff Buckley, There's meaningful sway in the piano, and palpable bitterness/hurt in DeGraw's vocal on the latter. "You were just friends/At least that's what you said," he sings. "Now I know better/From his fingers in your hair." It's a nice little lyric, adding impressive emotional gravity to an easily identifiable everyday moment. The flirty "Chemical Party" crosses chunky electric guitar with easy twang and vintage R&B--it's a stylistic match with labelmates Maroon 5, who took the same cocktail to number one and beyond with 2002's Songs About Jane. DeGraw's piano and vocal work is strong enough to keep Chariot on course, and mark it as a promising, mainstream-ready debut. --Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Great! Great! Great!!!!5
First heard "I dont want to be" on One Tree Hill, loved it straight away. Decided to look him up on amazon and found the cd "Chariot". I was so glad I decided to go for the album I listened to it right through from start to finish and loved every song especially, "Follow Through, Just Friends, I Dont want to be, and Over-rated". Its also great because it has the words on the inside of the cover which I love cos it just gives you a helping hand to get to know the song faster, although my 2 year old daughter cant read yet and she seems to have picked up the words no problem, that just shows how much I listen to it. She even gives a round of applause after every song, I think she loves it just as much as me. Cant wait til he is released in the UK, if he goes on tour here I will be first in queue for tickets for anywhere.

A great album for true music fans4
I have to admit the first time i heard anything but gavin was the theme song for the tv show one tree hill. i really like it and thought id check out the album and see if it lived up to my expectations. What i got was an album that blew me away. with a mix of soft ballads and rocky tracks this have now been played in my stereo to the point of wearing it out. this have got to be on of my favourite albums and i recomment it to anyone that has any real music taste.

Best album you've never heard of.5
I listened to this album for the first time today - and the second time - and the third time.

The piano work, the voice, the choice of songs - all excellent!

This album is way up there with the best, with no bad songs, and no filler material, and deserves much more fanfare than it has received.

Best album you've never heard of.
