Customer Reviews

Excellent Value For Money - Which "WILL NOT" Be "Wasted"5
I wrote to the previous reviewer asking a couple of questions as I know Sanctuary/Castle to be a superb label for oldies - probably up there with the best & I have much experience of buying & selling their releases. I got no reply & had no problem in checking this item out myself despite/& possibly because of the last review.
It claims "Originals" on the front case - & that is exactly what these tracks ARE! The previous guy claimes the majority are "re-recordings" - they are NOT!
All I can see they have to grumble about [& unbelievably downmark the release as a "1" star?] is that Track 1 on Disc 1 & Track 4 on Disc 2 are 'Live' tracks. I wouldnt like loads of `em - but we`re talking "2" tracks here by Curtis Mayfield & Roy Ayers...hardly 2-bit-players eh? [Total so far - 2 "live" tracks"]
Next on Tk 6 on Disc 1 we have The CHA with their "Goes Dancing Mix" - A different mix - but definetely NOT a 're-recording' by someones dad or a retired tambourine player - it came out the same time, & by the same band! [Total so far 2 live tracks & a different mix..still no re-records!]
Finally Lamont Dozier - & yes, it is he! - decides to put a "edit" version of 'Going Back To My Roots' on Tk 3 Disc 2...still beautiful Lamont!
So, your grand total - if your that inclined to worry about 2 live versions by 2 absolute "superstars" of soul/funk & 2 "original" but different mixes of superb dance floor grooves - is that the other *32* tracks are as you know & love them & are fantastic! In fact I think these 4 'different but not re-records' enhance the album myself.
As for the double-album itself, as well as your bit of [expected] pop-soul [eg Real Thing...], there are quite a few rarer "disco" tracks from performers that arent what might be on most "normal" disco comps [e.g Whispers, Moments..]. You`ve got Jimmy J & The Vagabonds [who I`ve been lucky enough to see twice - the last time this very year!] with a 60s Northern Fav AND a 70s Pop-Soul hit, some beautiful funk & plenty of what I like the most - Northern Soul!
Overall this item is worth every single penny you spend on it [& WHAT A PRICE?] & I, for one, highly recommend it to any other Soulsters out there!!!
HappyDaysToytown - "Keep The Faith"!

Don't waste your money1
I wouldn't bother wasting your money on this CD. I was very disappointed to find that the tunes are re-recordings as opposed to originals. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought it. Some of the songs sounded like something my grandad would knock up on his keyboard at home. To be fair there are a couple of originals on there though. Very disappointed that Amazon don't tell you this on the product description. I almost feel like I was mis-sold this one. At least it was cheap. :(

Long live the disco era !!!5
Hello there to all you disco lovers out there !

Remember the days when music was music, well this cd

has it all.

Its a definite 'must have' in anybodys collection.
