Amazon.co.uk Review
Will Smith's easygoing charm makes Hitch the kind of pleasant, uplifting romantic comedy that you could recommend to almost anyone--especially if there's romance in the air. As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch's own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta), he's trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) with whom he's fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore's Ever After so effortlessly engaging. As romantic comedies go, Hitch doesn't offer any big surprises, but as a date movie it gets the job done with amiable ease and style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Synopsis
In Andy Tennant's (SWEET HOME ALABAMA, ANNA AND THE KING) delightful romantic comedy HITCH, Will Smith stars as Alex Hitchens, an urban 'date doctor' who helps the common man woo the woman of his dreams. Hitch will use any means necessary--dance lessons, back waxing--to instil romantic confidence in his clientele. Hitch was once a lonely wallflower himself, who learned about love and heartbreak the hard way. His latest project, Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), may be his most difficult. Brennaman, a junior accountant prone to clumsiness, has fallen head-over-heels for one of his clients, Allegra Cole (Amber Valleta), a well-known celebrity. To complicate things further, Hitch's dating dogma is shaken when he meets and falls for a beautiful gossip columnist, Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), whose sharp wit easily pierces his cool facade. Conflict arises when Melas uncovers Hitch's true profession and blames him for her best friend being dumped. HITCH is set in affluent hot spots around New York City, making for some splendid visuals. Tennant gets charming performances from all of his leads, especially James, who makes an amazing transition from television's KING OF QUEENS and nearly steals the spotlight from Smith with his talent for physical comedy. Nevertheless, James and Smith have excellent onscreen chemistry. Kevin Bisch's first script is full of clever, contemporary dialogue, alternately pointing out the silliness and the poignancy of love and dating.

Great fun, sweet and romantic5
I loved this film. Really well cast, think Will Smith is gorgeous, Kevin James is fabulous and all the other characters fitted in well. Don't agree with the two star reviews that there are hardly any laughs, makes me laugh out loud all the way through. Maybe that means I'm easily pleased, but I don't care. I love a good romcom, and this ticks all the boxes. Yes, it is very American and cheesey but it makes you feel good, and what is wrong with that these days? I'd recommend it, plus the soundtrack is great too.

You'll Fall in Love with This Movie4
Alex Hitchens, "Hitch" to his friends (Will Smith), has a wonderful job. He helps men get the women of their dreams by giving them dating tips and arranging situations where they can meet their current crushes. Dubbed the "Date Doctor," Hitch operates by word of mouth.

His latest client is Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), a nerdy accountant who is deeply in love with socialite Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta). Even though Albert is way out of Allegra's league, Hitch begins to work his magic.

Meanwhile, Hitch has met society columnist Sara Melas (Eva Mendes) and is doing his best to win her. Sara is a tough cookie to crack, however, because her job reporting the break ups of others has made her extremely cynical. Sara's pursuit of Allegra and Albert only makes things worse. Will anyone find true love?

I'm sure if I describe this romantic comedy as predictable, it won't come as any surprise to you. I had the ultimate ending figured out long before the story really got going. However, I was left wondering how exactly they'd reach that outcome.

Even more importantly, the journey along the way was fun. While I didn't laugh as much as my friends, I was often smiling when I wasn't cringing. I'm not a fan of comedy from embarrassment, and that's some of the humor here. However, watching Hitch in action is fun. He is so smooth it is remarkable.

Finally, the characters made me care about the outcome. Sara was the only one it was hard to warm up to, and by the end I cared for her, too. The acting was great, which really helped.

This is one of those rare romantic comedies that everyone seems to enjoy. So if you are looking for a light film, give this one a chance.

Big Will fights off the cheese...4

This film is superb. "Hitch" is the nickname of Alex 'Hitch' Hitchens played by Will Smith who provides a consultancy service with a difference. He will give advice on matters of the heart for lonely, lovesick bachelors, who are desperate to make the first move, on the lady of their dreams. He careful screens his clients, thus ensuring that their intentions towards their target ladies, are honourable and worthy. Sara on the other hand, is the career driven gossip columnist for a New York tabloid, always in the know, and one step ahead of the rest of the paparazzi pack, when hunting down the latest celebrity rumours. She and Hitch meet up at a stylist New York club, where Hitch proves he can take a huge gulp of his own medicine, by charming Sara into coming out with him. the story really gets going, when the two main characters get their wires crossed, when Hitch's latest client, is the bumbling but cute Albert, who is pining after millionaire socialite Allegra Cole, someone who Sara is all too desperate to get on her front page day after day. mayhem ensues. well worth renting out.
