Amazon.co.uk Review
Will Smith's easygoing charm makes Hitch the kind of pleasant, uplifting romantic comedy that you could recommend to almost anyone--especially if there's romance in the air. As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch's own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta), he's trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) with whom he's fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore's Ever After so effortlessly engaging. As romantic comedies go, Hitch doesn't offer any big surprises, but as a date movie it gets the job done with amiable ease and style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Synopsis
In Andy Tennant's (SWEET HOME ALABAMA, ANNA AND THE KING) delightful romantic comedy HITCH, Will Smith stars as Alex Hitchens, an urban 'date doctor' who helps the common man woo the woman of his dreams. Hitch will use any means necessary--dance lessons, back waxing--to instil romantic confidence in his clientele. Hitch was once a lonely wallflower himself, who learned about love and heartbreak the hard way. His latest project, Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), may be his most difficult. Brennaman, a junior accountant prone to clumsiness, has fallen head-over-heels for one of his clients, Allegra Cole (Amber Valleta), a well-known celebrity. To complicate things further, Hitch's dating dogma is shaken when he meets and falls for a beautiful gossip columnist, Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), whose sharp wit easily pierces his cool facade. Conflict arises when Melas uncovers Hitch's true profession and blames him for her best friend being dumped. HITCH is set in affluent hot spots around New York City, making for some splendid visuals. Tennant gets charming performances from all of his leads, especially James, who makes an amazing transition from television's KING OF QUEENS and nearly steals the spotlight from Smith with his talent for physical comedy. Nevertheless, James and Smith have excellent onscreen chemistry. Kevin Bisch's first script is full of clever, contemporary dialogue, alternately pointing out the silliness and the poignancy of love and dating.

Funny and Heartwarming.4
I am a bloke and I enjoyed this; maybe I'm too metrosexual for my own good, but I found this to be easy going, light entertainment. Yes, it is predictable (did you think it would end like Seven?) Yes, it is cheesy. But this film does exactly what it is supposed to do - it's a romantic comedy and it makes you laugh (it's all good clean fun) and it tugs at the old heart strings. There's nothing revolutionary going on here but if you wanted that then you are looking in the wrong section of Amazon.

What makes this film stand out is Will Smith. He is such a likeble, charismatic character that he keeps you watching and his natural joi-de-vive keeps you hooked.

This is a date movie or a night in with popcorn. Recommended.

Well worth a watch4
Will Smith proves he has a continuing knack for selecting successful mainstream movies.

I was a little doubtful about buying this DVD, so I let my friend buy it so that I could watch! Shameful behaviour, I know, but she has the last laugh as this is the kind of movie I would watch again (and I'm not typical Rom-Com fodder).

The dialogue is quick flowing and fresh without ever becoming too clever for its own good. The leading roles are well acted by Will Smith and Eva Mendes but their performances are equalled by Kevin James (who he?) who plays the part of a hapless accountant in need of Smith's 'Date Dr' skills to help him get the woman of his dreams.... who just so happens to be the women of most men's dreams (in the movie).

The only down side about this flick comes towards the end when credulity gets stretched a little too far for the sake of rapidly tying up loose ends so that all can live happily ever after (sorry if I've just spoiled the ending!).

Overall, I rate this movie as a very entertaining 85%

Light hearted romcom4
Will Smith is funny and likeable in this comedy. Even got a few laughs out of my miserable boyfriend! Great for a lazy night in front of the telly
