Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Third album from US RnB star, sometime actor and ex-husbandof Halle Berry comes a full six years after his second, 1999's 'A Day In The Life'. Benet is already a music biz veteran, having recorded an album for Capitol as part of a group with his sister when he was still a teenager. His last album was a big hit Stateside and this release cements his reputation with another dose of smooth, sultry soul interspersed with groovy Prince style funk.

Well I Liked It4
Hurricane is Eric Benet's long over due follow-up to his gold selling 1999 sophomore album "A Day In The Life".I honestly really did give up on him (7 years is a long break between albums)but he has regained my attention this time we see a more vulnerable and regretful side to the former nymphomaniac which sadly split him and Halle Berry up. The album is quite a sad one but its quite enjoyable it's not an album to take to on just one listen it does need a couple but once u give it a chance it's not that dissapointing as some think.

1.Be Myself Again - Old bluesy opener it will make you tap your foot it's a very catchy song sorta in the same vain as Brandy's song "Who I Am" a slight autobiographical story about what hes been going through in the past 7 years a self-love song and it will make you feel good 10/10

2.Pretty Baby - This just seemed like filler material to me when i first played this song i wasn't impressed at all just seemed like a left over "ADITL" track but its a nice song quite melodic and calming alot like his older stuff 8/10

3.Hurricane - The 2nd single which made me buy the album it's without a doubt the strongest song of his entire career (yes even stronger than "Georgy Porgy" & "Spend My Life With You" and even "Why You Follow Me").It's a very beautiful swooping ballad about picking yourself up after a bad break-up "A hurricane/a hurricane/sometimes the only thing to bring you back again" a song alot of people are going to relate to 10/10

4.Where Does The Love Go - The lead single which i didn't really take to i saw the video on TV a while ago i actually turned it over. But listening to this really cool up-tempo song which could have done big things for the album does fall a bit short in terms of lyrical content but its a pleasing song just not as deep as some of the other cuts 9/10

5.My Prayer - Another good ballad probably dedicated to Halle even though i don't think she would take him back i really would advise her to actually listenin to this its such a heart-felt ballad and not in the soppy way. This is classic Benet! 10/10

6.Man Enough To Cry - I don't really like this song it's just a whiney song i would have just left this song off the album it just doesn't go anywhere 2/10

7.I Know - This song is an interesting one its sorta telling people that a people do change and he's changed for the better and became a better person over come his demon's and adverities and ready to be a real man a eye opener 10/10

8.India - Such a sweet song dedicated to his daughter (whose mother tragically died in a car crash). The lyrics are very clearfully written and has some jazz undertones but not a song to listen to over and over again 'coz i feel just think that only people with kids and Eric's daughter herself with appreciate this song 7/10

9.The Last Time - I really did like this but it just doesnt seem to lift off the floor the way you think it will and it just seems boring and just makes me wanna turn it off 4/10

10.In The End - Has a quite distinct live sound a very enlightening song it is a song about letting you know that everything is gonna be alright with the encouragement of friends and faith in God 10/10

11.Making Love - This just doesnt grab me what so ever i just advise people to just skip it 1/10

12.Cracks Of My Broken Heart - Pouring his heart and soul into this very sad ballad alot of people are gonna relate to this song beautifully written and a song that just screams out "I've changed, give me another chance" and we all know this song is to Halle Berry. One of the best tracks on the album 10/10

13.I Wanna Be Loved - Goes back to his previous work with his jazzy influences. The song is just a cry out to people saying (once again) that people really do change and hes ready for something real and meaningful he sings this really well and its an impressive song 10/10

14.Still With You - A really great closing track it just goes to show that even when your not with the person physically anymore the love will always been there deep down somewhere i think we've all learnt this lesson he sounds really great as well im well impressed 10/10

Top 5
1.Hurricane
2.Cracks Of My Broken Heart
3.My Prayer
4.I Wanna Be Loved
5.I Know

Despite alot of negativity thats always been with Eric this album is an appology and not alot of people can admit that they made mistakes and have changed give this album a try its a slow burner but you will gradually love it

Soul man's lost his soul2
Bland and souless. I was so surprised, what a meagre offering from a man with so much talent.

On the flip side, the lyrics were deep and obviously personal on some tracks.

Hurricane and India are maybe the best of the bunch.

Bring back the days of Georgy Porgy!

No soul2
I was very dissapointed when I bought this CD.
The album is quiet storm / MOR all the way, there's not a single uptempo track and generally all of it is very pop-oriented material. Nicely produced, but boring and not something for a soul music fan, that's for sure.
I guess they're trying to give Eric a "mr. sensitive" image (which he has brilliantly proved not in word but in action that he is NOT) but it doesn't work for me. If you liked the most quiet tracks on his previous albums this might be for you, otherwise I at least suggest you give it a good listen before you buy so you don't end up as dissapointed as me !
