Customer Reviews

Not the greatest, but still good.4
This 'best of' completely ignores the first two albums and focuses on tracks from 1995's Smash to 2003's Splinter. They've certainly selected tracks that get the most playouts but with notable absences such as "Bad Habit", "Million Miles Away", "The Noose", "Session" and "Beheaded". New track, "Can't Repeat" is a welcome addition, as are the surprise songs "Defy You" (from the Orange County OST) and the Wiseguys remix of "The Kids Aren't Alright". Those who are new to The Offspring can't go far wrong with this collection. Essential songs such as "All I Want", "The Kids Aren't Alright", "Self Esteem" and "Gone Away" show some of the best of the Offspring's timeless musical creations. The more chart friendly pop-punk tracks like "Hit That", "Original Prankster", "Why Don't You Get A Job" and the aged "Pretty Fly" are predictable additions to this album but not their best.

Overall, it's a decent overview of the past 20 years of The Offspring.

it's good, but it could be better4
So far as a best of album goes this one certainly seems to tick all the boxes, all the most famous tracks are there
self esteem : check
Pretty fly : check
want you bad : check
Along with a couple of singles from their most recent album
surprisingly there's also a number of lesser known but very popular tracks including Gone away, all I want and the kids aren't alright. Really, considering the limitations this is a pretty good mix and an excellent choice for some-one new to the band

Great Songs, but only their singles...4
This album is very good for people who are new to the Offspring, it gives them a general feel of the band. A punk rock band from southern California, their music is good with some good baselines.

This isn't their greatest music ever, just their singles, though Ignition is excluded. It includes some great songs with sing-along choruses (hit that, Gotta Get Away) but it is true that some of their best songs (the non singles but fan favorites) are excluded.

This is my rating of the songs from (1 to 10)

1. Can't Repeat 8/10 I think it is a good offspring song, quite catchy but not really that great (kind of like 'the kid's aren't allright' which i like more)
2. Come Out and Play (keep em' seperated) 8/10 Yet another good offspring song, starts good, with some cool riffs but still not their best songs (i find it very similar with Pretty Fly for a White Guy)
3. Self Esteem 10/10 Pretty heavy song, based on four chords, but it has an amazing beginning, good singing and nice chorus.
4. Gotta Get Away 9.5/10 Great song, no special guitar riffs but very catchy chorus.
5. All I Want 8/10 Quite a good song, kind of catchy but not that great compared to some of the songs on this album.
6. Gone Away 6/10 This song didn't impress me, it was over-long in my opinion, and it was kind of boring.
7. Pretty Fly For a White Guy 7/10 You've probably heard this song. I think it is very commercial (I find the Americana album the Offspring's weakest album) It is very catchy but i personally dont like it
8. Why Don't You Get a Job 7/10 I think this song is ok, i think it's too commercial, kind of like those songs that go on and on and on. (especially towards the end)
9. The Kid's Aren't Alright 10/10 Great Song, one of their best. Combines a great chorus with great riffs and sing-a-long verses.
10. Original Prankster 9/10 Kind of weird, but its quite interesting, it isn't your typical Offspring song
11. Want You Bad 9/10 seems kind of Blink 182 inspired, but with an offspring touch
12. Defy You 8/10 Good song, heavy, in a completely different direction from Americana
13. Hit That 10/10 Hugely catchy, you'll end up singing the choruses way after the song finishes!
14. (cant get my) head around you 8/10 its a good song, kind of average Offspring stuff

the Greatest Hits is just a compilation of the offspring's singles to date (ignition isn't there though), and if you're a fan of the offspring you will probably be disappointed because it doesn't include fan favorites. But if you're new to the offspring get this, you won't be disappointed.
