An excellent second set,5
This is the second set from Angela (excluding Cooly's work) and to me she fufills the potential she showed on her excellent debut. Once again she was the Jazz Cafe recently and again blew everyone away. Now, to the new CD itself!

A more mature offering, in the sense of writing and she's really defining her own style now. Great soul/funk stylings using the soul/funk heritage but really bringing her own voice to bear. There are some super quality cuts here. "You're here with me" is a brilliant, lush ballad. Pick of the year so far. There's a duet with a guy called Jeremy James. This went down great live and translates well to CD, the guys really talented, great voice (think Donnie, The Colored Section). "On my way" is a superb slow burner, real quality. "Anything" is a superb mid-tempo cut, complete with faux-LP scratchiness. Love it! 12 tracks in total, none less than good.

Overall a big step up from Angela on what was a superb debut. Just hope we don't have to wait 3 years for release number 3!!

Excellent follow up album. A deserved 5-star rating.5
The sublime Angela Johnson returns with a storming set that highlights the travesty of her relative obscurity.

There are some diverse sounds here. Whatever she tackles just seems to work - on I'll Always Love you she comes across as a female Al Green whilst On My Way has echoes of the brilliant Jazzyfatnastees.

Fot those of us "in the know", this album is confirmation of a considerable talent.
