Nobody sees the Show...until now that is!5
Girls Aloud. Ah. Lovely lasses. And probably the best pop band in the country right this very second. This DVD is just perfect if you're a huge fan of them (like I am). It's got all their videos, some nice performance clips, a TV special, and a nice little poster too. Perfect pop package.

The girls' first DVD release...4
A few months back, those of us sad enough to have registered with the Girls Aloud website for email updates were sent a questionnaire, about whether we would buy a DVD and what we would like to see on it. Given that there were several questions about concerts, and would we like to see live footage, I was surprised when the contents for this package did not include a concert - which makes me think there's another DVD to come soon!

However, this one is more than enough to keep the fans going for a while. There's MTV's The Show, with actual live performances and a QA session, which was good fun. All the videos, including an apparently new edit of Jump. There's also several TV performances, although not as many as there might have been. All the promo videos are on the disc, so to have live performances of the singles for a third time is a bit tight. Why couldn't we have had the performances from Greasemania, or Popstars? Or some of the album tracks that have been performed (although one is included here). And why oh why haven't we got one of the two performances of the eponymous Duran Duran cover version that this disk is named after?

Minor gripe really. This is an excellently presented and packaged DVD, all the videos, plus you get to hear the girls speak, which is nice. It's interesting to see their transformation into slightly awkward popstar wannabees into FHM ever-presents too - see how different Nicola looks from the first video to the last TOTP performance!

Well worth getting whether you're a fan or not, although a little more variation would have been nice.

A Collection of TV clips basically2
The first Girls Aloud DVD to be released but most likely not the last. At first glance this DVD looks to be great, it is good but it still feels like there is a lot missing. It has a bit of everything there for fans. It has all of the videos which is brilliant really and is interesting to watch the changes from the first video to the latest offerings.

The Show MTV special is quite good, if you haven't seen it before it's quite an experience to hear Girls Aloud perform live. Considering they won the Popstars show they really aren't that good (excluding Nadine). Sarah is noticeably bad on The Show. For the most part they don't sound too bad but don't sound amazing either. The fan questions don't really give you much of an insight into the girls, one thing I seem to notice is that they don't seem to have the instant personalities of other succsesful girl groups like the Kittens or the Spice Girls.

The behind the scenes specials don't really do much but they are nice little additions, just not that special.

The live performances taken from TV are all mimed but that's not really suprising. The performance of No Good Advice on CD:UK is quite good, the girls have lots of energy and visually with the taxi it is a good performance, just a shame that they put this mimed one on the DVD when they did perform the track live on CD:UK at another time.

The Life Got Cold performance on Popworld is quite dull, it isn't even a mime of the pre-recorded vocal which they used around that time it is the album vocal. I don't really like this performance very much because the Girls don't have any energy, probably because there is no audience.

The Mars Attack performance is just a bit of nothing, I don't mean to be too critical but there is just no personality in it. It is driven by choreography and not even good choreography at that.

The Love Machine on TOTP performance is quite pointless really, it is the pretty much the same as the one from the MTV special just mimed. The Wake Me Up performance is great, good choreography, more personality and they look good on the motorbikes. This one saves the TV performance section really.

There is a nice poster with the DVD and for the price it is good value I just feel that it could do with a bit more. Anyway as a first Girls Aloud DVD it is quite good just not amazing. Hopefully the tour DVD will be a bit better.
