Star Wars Battlefront will put fans and gamers in the heat of the action as they relive all of the epic battles from the classic and prequel eras of the Star Wars universe. Players will be able to participate in the most memorable Star Wars battles set in over 15 environments across 10 diverse planets including Hoth, Geonosis, Yavin, Tatooine and Naboo. Players will also be able to select one of over 20 different soldier types from four factions: Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Army and Droid Army. Each soldier will have specialised abilities and the freedom to use ground-based turrets found on the battlefront as well as over 15 diverse ground and air vehicles including the AT-ST, X-wing and speeder bike.

In addition to the single-player and various multiplayer modes offered in Star Wars Battlefront, a unique "Conquest" mode adds an innovative and strategic gameplay element to the action. After each battle is completed and the planet is conquered, the winning team will be rewarded with a special "bonus" ability that can be deployed in future battles in an attempt to take over the Star Wars galaxy planet by planet.

Cash in or classic?
This game first came out a few weeks before the DVD release of the Star Wars Trilogy. Coincidence? Yeah, right.

SWBF is a great game and one that boys of a certain age had wanted for many many years. Fight as a Stormtrooper! Assault Endor! Fry Jar Jar Binks! Its all there. Authentic sounds, visuals, maps, etc. Great blasting fun, runs smooth, looks great, a pleasure to play. With the option to play in either the classic or new films eras in several maps, plus at least five character classes in each of four selectable armies, you'll have a lot fun conquering the galaxy.

All thats lacking is gameplay options. There are a few modes to play with, but essentially they all boil down to assault the map, capture command point, move onto the next one. The closest you'll get to a real strategy decision is when you respawn and have to choose a charatcer class. With no DLC support on release, new gameplay modes were never going to happen. A downloaded patch did make new maps possible though - and one was duly released. No chance of seeing any more, I think.

Which brings me on to the only other drawback to this title - onliune play. Xbox Live is normally reliably great. But SWBF struggles. Forget what the box says about maximum players. The most you'll ever get going with acceptable ammounts of lag is 8.

So why does such a high profile title, full of so much promise and genuinely great material, have such severe faults? Could it be the game was rushed out to be on the shelves before the DVD? Were some features perhaps purposefully ommitted so they could be included in the forthcomning sequel? Surely not! Why, that would mean house of Lucas has some sort of money-grabbing ethic, more determined to squeeze as much cash from punters' pockets than to give them good products!

Who knows, who knows. Whatever the reasons, SWBF is a great game and probably does deserve to be called a classic. If you are a fan of Star Wars at all you'll love this game. Just be aware its not quite as smooth as it ought to be and the sequel is just aroud the corner.

Star Wars: Another Great Saga Returns!
After having had this game for some time now, I can easily say it's one of the best games i've ever played - period. It's not often you find a game where it combines comedy, action, realism (and authenticity) and fighting all at once and that pretty much sum's up SW:BF. You can work for the Republic, Galactic Empire or the Cloners in a series of games such as Galactic conquest where the objective is to take over the galaxy planet by planet or in story mode, where you try to play along as if you were watching the movie itself. Variety is also in the essence here, with a wide selection of weaponary also found within the game taken from the movie, all your classic weapons like the blaster rifle and bowcatcher. This game really captures the moment and fighting large scale battles with you as a soldier makes you feel as if your in the movies and that every laser bolt you fire counts towards the success of whatever side you have chosen. And to make this game even more special multiplayer mode is fab! Take up challenges with 4 other players or how about Live? The only real critisism I found with this game is you can't play as a Sith lord or a Jedi Knight, they are computer controlled. Also after playing for 3 hours solid it does get repetative and sometimes is very monotonous. Still, this game has endless fun and if your an avid Star Wars fan like me, you'll love this game!
