Gorgeous
The title didn't lead me to think this would be one of the more essential additions to Soul Jazz's Studio One series, but they've really excelled themselves here, with a scorching collection of gorgeous reggae love songs, not to be confused with the late 1970s/1980s lovers rock genre, which was, however, undoubtedly influenced by some of the tracks on this compilation.

Much of this is from the late 1960s and early 1970s, and in particular about half of the compilation consists of some of the finest lovers rocksteady ever recorded. In fact they could almost have called this Studio One Rocksteady and it would have been more accurately titled than some of their other Studio One releases. Highlights are hard to pick out of such a fine compilation but Delroy Wilson's "I Don't Know Why", the extremely obscure Basil Daley's "Hold Me Baby" and Horace Andy's haunting "Got To Be Sure" are all stone killers, and not the only ones by any means. One of the best reggae compilations I've ever heard.
