Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
The classic to clunker ratio is still extraordinarily high, though The Simpsons' sixth season could give some devoted viewers pause. The show that takes cheeky delight in mooning television convention gives us "Another Simpsons Clip Show" and its first season-ending cliffhanger, "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" And, as does Bart in "A Star Is Burns," we should all feel a little dirty at the "cheap cartoon crossover" appearance of Jay Sherman (Jon Lovitz), designed to give a boost to the ill-fated animated series The Critic. But this is just beard-stroking tongue-clucking regarding a season that delivered episodes that rank in the hallowed The Simpsons pantheon, among them, "Homer Badman," in which lust for a gummy Venus de Milo, peeled from the behind of an unwitting babysitter, makes Homer the object of feminist protest and tabloid TV fodder, and "Homer the Great," in which Homer is discovered to be the Chosen One to lead the secret society, "The Stonecutters" ("Who holds back the electric car/Who made Steve Guttenberg a star?/We do!"). Several episodes take their inspiration from classic films and books: Hitchcock's Rear Window ("Bart of Darkness"); Michael Crichton's Westworld and Jurassic Park ("Itchy and Scratchy Land"); and Stephen King and Ray Bradbury ("Treehouse of Horror V").

This season's roster of guest voices is also especially impressive, including Winona Ryder as "Lisa's Rival," Meryl Streep as Rev. Lovejoy's bad-seed daughter ("She's like a Milk Dud," a smitten Bart laments. "Sweet on the outside, poison on the inside"), the late Anne Bancroft in "Fear of Flying"; Patrick Stewart in "Homer the Great"; Mel Brooks and Susan Sarandon in "Homer vs. Patty and Selma," and Mandy Patinkin as Lisa's future fiancée in the surprisingly moving "Lisa's Wedding." There has, of late, been a feud a-brewin' between fans of The Simpsons and Family Guy. Which show is funnier? Has The Simpsons lost it? Is Family Guy a Simpsons-wannabe? Hey; Can't we all just laugh along? Best to just marvel at another exemplary Simpsons season that, to quote Homer in "Lisa's Rival," delivers it all: "The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles." --Donald Liebenson, Amazon.com

Synopsis
The all-American dysfunctional family, beloved stars of the longest-running animated television series ever, returned for a sixth season on FOX. This season sees the adults of Springfield disappearing when Homer markets his libidinous wonder drug, while, Bart suspects aliens and conspiracy. Marge uncovers a repressed memory of her father when she encounters a flight attendant, and the family learns the reason behind the household's dearth of pictures of Maggie. Bart manages to offend the entire country of Australia, while both Homer and Marge decide it's time for a career change. Marge becomes a cop and sets about cleaning up Springfield, while Homer discovers the advantages and disadvantages of being a professional clown.

DO buy this but not the limited addition version5
Further to the comments made by another reviewer, I would also like to express how bad this limited edition DVD cover is. The DVDs are excellent, but this limited addition cover is terrible. I've spent the last couple of months trying to find someone that sells the standard cover. These are so much better, fit in with the rest of the collection AND won't fall off your shelf because of the odd shape of the box!

Get the set, but don't get the limited edition one readers!

AWSOME!!!5
A brilliant box set and a must have for any simpsons fan. Some of my favorite episodes are on these dvds including who shot mr burns part 1. The cliff hanger that left us in the dark for almost a year.
The pure ganius that Matt Greoning is is show cased brilliantly in this complete sixth season of simpsons.

The set is in a limited edition Homer head and has alot of value, but if you just like the simson episodes then mabee the normal box set is the one for you.
All in alll this is a brilliant season and i loved each and every single episode!!!

Excellent buy, well worth the money5
What can I say. The Simpsons DVD box sets have always been top quality. Every single episode has a audio commentary which is almost always funny and interesting. The dvd's are bursting with extras - Deleted scenes, Storyboards, animation tutorials etc. This season in particular was amazing and this special edition box looks great on the outside and inside.

A MUST-HAVE!
