Is this the King of Fighters?
Well I've been playing the King of Fighters series ever since the 96 installment and although having it's ups and downs in the series I can definitely say this installment into the series doesn't fail to deliver.
The first thing that hit me was that this King of Fighters game actually has a decent number of game modes in comparison to the previous games and also has a colour edit mode (exactly the same as you may have seen in CvS2), you have your basic training mode and one on one modes aswell as the ability to play on Xbox Live.
The Graphics I noticed is a huge step up for the series with 3D animations running within the background and highly detailed character portraits although sadly there's not much I can say about the character sprites other than it's the typical King of Fighters look.
Gameplay I rate very highly although not much has changed in this new installment it still retains the high level of gameplay that the King of Fighters series is renowned for. This time around SNK Playmore get rid of the Strikers (as seen in 99 and 2000) and plays much more like 98 in comparison to the other KoFs. I do think that it's a huge step up from what KoF 2001 was although be it no mean feat to make... it does bring back some of the old roster and add greater gameplay elements.
Overall this is one great fun game for any fan of 2D fighters and not a bad installment to the series although I do regard 2000 and 2003 as better games, if you can find this for a few quid like I did it's most definitely worth checking out.
