Editorial Reviews
Album Description
• This material has never been re-released anywhere; it’s a semi-known collectors’ label established by the ubiquitous New York music impressario Gerard W Purcell, who used the best black music talent to produce fabulous soul sounds.
• Acts such as the Hesitations, Debbie Taylor and the Persians are well known, certainly in the US and also to a cognoscente of soul fans and collectors.
• There are two great unreleased tracks from Debbie Taylor and The Hesitations, both of which are George Kerr productions. His productions and Ed Bland’s arrangements are incredible and the mixes sound absolutely fantastic; created in-house with TLC from the original eight track master tapes.
• There are more unreleased gems, from lesser known artists such as the Devonnes, the Shaladons and Milton Bennett; all of them great dancers too.
• Other major highlights are songs, productions and performances from Larry Banks and Jaibi (of whom Dave Godin was a major fan), and some gorgeous southern soul from Benny Gordon.
• All this from a label whose story has never been told before and this glorious package will appeal to soul fans right across the board.
