Manufacturer's Description
Got a laptop? What will you do if the hard-drive fails? Backup all those important files on a ByteStor "Dataferry" USB flash drive. Presentations, spreadsheets etc can be run straight from the drive. No need to copy them to your hard-drive. It's the perfect gift for anyone that owns a computer. Insert the flash drive into a computer's USB Socket. Drag and drop files - data, image, sound or any type of file - onto the flash drive and then remove the flash drive. The drive shows up with the next available drive letter. Insert the flash drive into another computer and all the files can be accessed instantly. It couldn't be easier. No drivers are needed. (Drive does not support Windows 98 SE.)

Bytestor vs Buffalo
I have bought both the Bytestor 1GB Dataferry (this one) and the Buffalo RUF-C1G/U2 1GB (ASIN: B0009G3DJK). So here's a quick comparison:
The Buffalo is about 50% faster to write to: 23s for a 100mb file, 36s for the Bytestor
They are the SAME to write from (both 12s to write same 100mb file back to hard disk)
The Buffalo has a relatively secure cap, however, due to the design I suspect it would get a little weaker over time.
The Bytestor has a very secure cap - I doubt it would get much looser over time.
The hoop to attach a keyring is much bigger (better) on the Bytestor.
The Bytestor looks much cooler!
The Buffalo comes with a USB2 extension cable - v.useful. (No cable with Bytestor)
The Buffalo is £1 cheaper (£13.99) than the Bytestor
The Buffalo has a lock switch so you can't accidently erase your data
Both have low profile usb sockets, so should fit all usb sockets with the casing getting in the way.
So in conclusion, the case is a better design on the Bytestor, but the performance is better on the Buffalo. I think the Bytestor will last longer, but everyday actual use will be better on the Buffalo. The inclusion of the extension cable, the faster use and the £1 price difference definately makes the Buffalo better value.
If it wasn't for the slightly inferior cap on the Buffalo, I would certainly be recommending it over the Bytestor...but the better build quality and aethetic design of the casing on the Bytestor give it a big boost.
The Buffalo is my choice and the winner here. I'm just hoping the cap holds out longer than I fear!
Brilliant - so fast, so small!
It's narrow enough to plug into a USB port with other leads plugged in beside it. No drivers needed for Windows XP/XP Home Edition - just plug it in to the USB port and go. I just went into Windows Explorer, and dragged all the necessary files into the drive - it shows up on my system as USB Mass Storage Device. It's smaller than most keyrings, and the top fits onto the end of the flash drive while in use, so that you don't lose it - more reliable than floppies, which last around 1 year max - and so much faster, I couldn't believe the speed. Well worth the £29.99 I paid for it - I wouldn't be without it. Now, my most important files are REALLY safe!
Just buy one
Perfik
I bought this to replace my older/smaller pendrive - due to reliability concerns by others i have held back my review (been using it for about 6 months now)
+It's very light = it lives in my pocket any time it's not plugged in
+I'm a trainer by profession and I use it 'daily' to maintain upwards of 80,000 training files. I'm moving around all the time. Of course it would be reckless not to keep this backed up on my main PC, and with software available Free from the public domain I would insist you do
+ Never had cause to use my backup + It always just works fine
+ This has got me out of a fix so many times (every time our network goes down) it owes me nothing + if it blew up tomorrow i'd just buy another
+ It can store my whooooooooole life and still has room to spare (now that 'is' sad)
This is silly money for a must have gadget - Just get one
P.S. I also have totally trouble free 'Bytestore' SD card (Camera memory card)
