Jacks Mannequin
Andrew McMahon is a likeable frontman who has spread his tunes between two bands, Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin. The latter is a power-pop confection, and it's unfortunate that Everything In Transit sees its release at back-to-school time instead of the beginning of summer. The songs, packed with pathos and big builds, are ripe for soundtracking teenage summertimes, and all the huge self-discoveries, forged friendships, fleeting romances, and trips to the mall that those days entail.

McMahon is in the midst of a battle with leukemia, so he's the rare young frontman who is unhesitatingly forgiven for "life or death" melodrama. He's a fighter, but he's fragile, too, and he lays himself bare in his lyrics, repeatedly returning to a place of hope and camaraderie. Musically, though, Everything In Transit is too general and too sugary to create much gravitas independent of its sad backstory. Clearly, Jack's Mannequin aspires for more than pop escapism, but this seems to be what McMahon and company do best --and they do it pretty well.

"Miss Delaney," for instance, is a piano-driven pop sing-along that will appeal to fans of Fountains of Wayne, and also tips its hat to The Beach Boys. The piano is prominent throughout, and often takes the songs to places that listeners may be hesitant to admit. (Could "I'm Ready," for instance, almost be a Vanessa Carlton song? Yes.) The front-end is considerably stronger than the last half, which loses the contagious thread begun by the breezy "Holiday From Real" and the driving "The Mixed Tape." - Adam McKibbin

Musical genious
Well I'm not sure what else I can say after reading the previous review, which was excellent. (it's interesting how the first two people to comment are from the Bristol area.)

If you enjoyed Andrews very unique song structure and lyric style from the Something Corporate album 'North', you will appreciate this to no end. It's very clearly the same musician but I think this album is more upbeat, much more uplifting. Even if his lyrics are some-what 'emo' at times you still won't be able to sit still or listen without singing along. He also uses a hoard of unusual instruments here which were previously un-explored so it's still an exciting album for veteran fans of his music.

My favourite songs are:
'Holiday from Real'
'Mixed Tape'
'Bruised'(yes it's definately "every inch you see is bruised" who thought it was anything else!?)
'Kill the Messenger'
'Rescued'

Although we havn't heard anything new from him since north the wait was definately worth it. Every song must take hours of mind boggling and massive amounts of effert from his emotions.

I think even if you're not the kind of person to read behind the text or study the music but just want something easy to listen to, you will find it here.

Musical Genius
The Something Corporate Star Andy McMahon took time out to write and record Jack's Mannequin debut album 'Everything in Transit', the result, one of the best albums ever produced, it has everything, including a required intellect to spot the vast poetic metaphoric lyric style used. Get it! (But don't if your stupid :-), well, you'd still find it catchy). A few thoughts on each song: (take into consideration that JM's use of metaphors etc mean a song could mean any of a 1000 things, but this is my (probably wrong) perception)

Holiday from Real - Escaping Reality is what this songs all about. Brilliantly written, amazing vocals, great opening track.

Mixed Tape - With the opening lyrics 'This is morning, That's when I spend the most time, Thinking 'bout what I've given up', anyone who's ever made a regrettable decision will be right at home. Great song, although I fell it should have been titled 'Where are you Now?', any thoughts?

Lonely for Her - No prizes for guessing what this song is about. I heard this for the first time whilst my girlfriend was away travelling, and I was convinced Andy came and stole the lyrics from one of my dreams. I love the way he throws his voice on the chorus, he does similar things throughout the album all to good effect.

I'm Ready - Another song in which Andy throws his voice really well, especially during the chorus. Maybe the person he was lonely for in the previous track screwed him over? Give meaning to "I am aware I've been Misled, I disconnect my heart my head", once again however, amazing song!

Kill the Messenger - OMG- Very Good song! The symbolism and metaphors in this song are amazing, emphasised by "Kill the messenger, I swear it's not me it's just someone I use to know, and get to church cuz you're a good girl", you have to listen to this song.

Miss Delaney - Not too sure what to make about this song, I can safely say it's the worst on the album, but compare it to the likes of Backstreet Boys it's still genius! But that may be my English culture shining through, it may have more meaning to an American audience, which is also the case in another song by KM, 'Last Straw', I can't see it on the album listings so you may have to download it, but maybe it will be a bonus track, great song, but I think I'm lost a bit in the American culture, eg "I stayed home, took a vicadin, sometimes it's all I can do when I think about the president" What's a Vicadin?!?! Another band I like (Alkaline Trio) also mention it, what is it?!?!?! A DRUG I GUESS.

La La Lie - Only just got hold of this song, but it's amazing "I've got friends who (la la lie)", I know I'm going to LOVE it!

Bruised - One of my fave's. Listen to it! And he say's 'Every inch you see is bruised', not 'every industry is bruised' makes more sense.

All the other songs are really good, my fave is 'we were made for each other/you can breathe' it's really 2 songs in 1, it's pure genius. Get this album!!
