CD Description
'Heartbeats' is a career-spanning compilation of hits by gravel-voiced singer-songwriter Chris Rea. Having spent a hugely successful career crafting driving blues-pop songs of thehighest calibre, this long-overdue collection is the perfect introduction to the work of one of Britain's greatest songwriters. Includes the singles 'Lets Dance' and 'Fool (If YouThink It's Over)'.
Customer Reviews
Too much 'disco beat'
I love Chris Rea to bits - especially his recent return to the blues and his original stuff - but this album is just another re-hash of the good old tracks ruined by the adding of a 'disco beat' - obviously added by some record company boss trying to make Chris have more 'mass market appeal' - sickening! The first track on this album - 'On the Beach' - a classic where the original starts slow with a guitar and some waves on a sea shore in the background; this re-work starts with a drum machine!!! This is not the 'best of' by any measure neither is it his greatest hits - it is his hits ruined by a drum machine. Not recommended.
Cool Chris Rea - A Great Collection of Hits
Until recently I had never been interested in chris rea. Probably like many of you reading this, I had heard 'on the beach' and 'road to hell', two of his most famous songs, and quite liked them. So I bought his greatest hits album - and have not been dissappointed. All the songs are good , in particluar I found 'josephine'and 'nothing to fear' addictive, both of which see rea playing the guitar at his best. simple tunes with rea's great, rough-edged vocals.
Its one of those albums thats great to put on late at night and relax to. In fact there's only one real problem - which is that the songs are very catchy and you'll soon be singing them all day long.
All considered, this compilation of chris rea's hits is a great addition to anyones album collection. (and just to dispel any myths, you don't have to be old to like rea - I'm only in my early twenties!)
Happy Any CR release is bonus - but why same as before ?.
Don't get me wrong I am fan of Chris Rea and his music, and over the years have followed what he does music wise.
When I saw that a new Greatest Hits CD was coming out I was well chuffed, and was expecting to see at least couple of tracks from recent releases ie DDSTR / BJ, etc although by record sales they may not be termed as greatest hits there are still superb tracks.
I will order this CD from amazon shortly - although whether they will print my review I don't know, I just wonder if this is a genuine release or record company pressure release and if so will there be a Vol 2 to include the more recent DDTSR & BJ.
As for the CD contents the known songs are on here, and without going through each track, they all stand the test of time and show what a great musician / song writer CR is.
By the way DDTSR is Dancing down the stoney road and BJ Blue Jukebox, do your self a favour and get coopy of DDTSR, don't think you will dissapointed it is superb mix of Delta Blues.
