CD Description
Trisha Yearwood's first album in four years, 2005's JASPER COUNTRY, not only marked a triumphant return for the popularcountry singer, but closely followed the announcement of her engagement to fellow superstar Garth Brooks. Impending nuptials aside, the album, named for the region of Georgia where Yearwood grew up, stands on its own as an excellent outingthat balances country twang and pop-tinged melodies.
Songs range from the juke-joint rocker "Pistol" to the lively "Baby Don't You Let Go" (featuring the mandolin work of bluegrass mainstay Sam Bush) to the romantic hit single "Georgia Rain" (which includes Brooks on harmony vocals). Other highlights are the pleading "Try Me" (with Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn) and the rollicking closer, "It's All right", which ties up the disc in celebratory fashion. Wonderfully straightforward, JASPER COUNTY finds Yearwood in fine voice and avoiding overtly commercial leanings, resulting in one of her strongest and most well-rounded outings.

Her best yet!
I have always enjoyed Trisha Yearwood's CDs but thought the last few had strayed a little too far from country and were a little over produced. This is a return to a a simpler and more country sound. The production on this CD perfectly suits the excellent song selection and her voice which has matured. She always had a great voice but it has got better. It is a CD which makes you sit up and lsiten and want to play again. Stand out songs include: Georgia Rain, Who invented the wheel, River of You but they are all of a very high standard. This is very good music and well worth a listen. I recommend it.
"Try me" ;-)
Jasper County is a good album overall. To me, it seems as though Trisha's sound on this album heads deeper into country roots, and is spiced up lightly with bluegrass sounds. In my opinion, her voice is not QUITE as sweet and soft sounding as it was on older tracks such as Down On My Knees and The Woman Before Me, but her voice is still fantastic, it just takes on a more 'country' style, if you get what I mean. Even on tracks which to me, seem a little bland, (Try Me, and Trying To Love You) it's Trisha's voice that makes them extremely listenable. There's a mix of upbeat songs which are fun to sing along to, such as Pistol, Gimme the Good Stuff, It's Alright and Sweet Love, and slower, softer sounding tracks. The lyrics in Who Invented the Wheel (a song which develops in stages) are clever, as a woman looks for 'someone to blame': "Tell me who discovered steel.
It was the wheel and the steel that caused this pain,
That made the car that took him away." Georgia Rain, the first single, is a beautiful story told with Trisha's lovely voice. Its style is not too different from Trisha's previous albums.
River of You is one of my favorites. It has a great sound to it. Personally I think Jasper County is a great album, Trisha's voice sounds good, the music is great, and the lyrics are clever and sweet. It has enough variety to keep it interesting.
Outside in - at least Mrs. Garth Brooks is still delivering
This is modern country at its best. If you like Garth or the Chicks you can't go wrong here. Much better sound than the horribly overproduced Inside Out. I hope she doesn't go into early retirement like her husband any time soon. It's more country-style than Shania. But then Trisha also has a much better voice. Fully recommended.
