Real gem from the master
I have to say I was really surprised at how much I loved this album. I have a lot of George Clinton CD's and find that generally there is some gem's amoungst some pretty average songs. However this CD is so different. It is a real mixture of all the different P-Funk/Parliament/Funkadelic members with their individual songs and so many stand out tracks. The George Clinton tracks also seem more commercial than usual with really addictive qualities that you can't get out of your head. Even a track running at over 15 mins with a repeated loop throughout (I can dance) never gets boring and really proves the strength of these songs.
If you love your funk then I strongly recommend this CD. This without doubt is my favourite George Clinton CD of the last 15 years.
At long last....
A double CD from George Clinton, which after all the legal wranglings is long overdue from a fans point of view. A mixed bag of funk, some of it seems to have been in the can from quite a while back.
Well worth a purchace but given the lenght there's bound to be a variable quality. The sytles of song are diverse, but there's no real old school Funkadelic tracks and limited use of real drums. Horns not often in evidence either. Female vocals dominate, with some good songs involving Kendra Foster and a number of Belita Woods numbers which could have ended up on a solo album.
George's voice is ragged at times and Whole Lot of Shakin' is a disaster. But there's a great spirit of adventure in the different approaches and with the promise of more releases this wets the appetite!
