Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell:
It’s Grand Theft Auto in the Wild West as you take on every varmint in the state, battle cattle rustlers, outlaws, evil business men and figure out the conspiracy behind who your real father was. Simply put, this is an ultra violent tale of the old frontier.
The lowdown:
Swap the cars for horses, San Andreas for the big country and a Uzi for a good old six shooter and suddenly GTA becomes GUN. It’s not quite that exact a copy though: the story missions are much more important here, with the side quests proving to be fairly short lived, and there's relatively little reward available for exploring the game world. The actual business of gun fighting and horse riding looks and feels great, with accurate, intuitive controls and surprisingly violent showdowns. Grand Theft Auto is a better game and Red Dead Revolver is a better Western, but this is still a decent effort at navigating a path between the two. Most exciting moment:
Failing to take care of business in a horseback gunfight, then using your dead mount for cover!
Since you ask:
Developers Neversoft are the same studio behind the Tony Hawk’s games – as you might have guessed from the familiar looking combo messages.
The bottom line:
Doesn’t quite reach its full potential but a fun cowboy simulator all the same.

Good, but too short!!!!!!!!!!
Just quick review for all you would be buyers of Gun. -Bad news, It's far to short -Good news It's a great game, very atmoshperic and good story with great graphics and great gameplay. Great sattisfaction in dismembering bad cowboys heads and limbs(how sick)and is a great shooter game. It would still be in my collection but was completed far too early, if the story was double the size Gun would of been a great classic in my collection. Oh well i can now get suck into Warriors which seems pretty cool and will no dought have hours of story to play knowing rockstars reputation! Buy Gun for your collection when it goes for under a tenner or you might be dissapointed by it's value for money.....
Brilliant- if you like great graphics, story, shooting
The best ever cowboy console game. An epic story with every spaghetti western cliche and brilliant voice acting. Your helping the indians take over a fort one minute with fire arrows, doing jobs for the pony express and then playing poker. Gun has breathtaking landscapes and highly enjoyable boss battles. And with the side missions, the gold mining and the different difficulty missions to do Gun has excellent replay value. The horse riding flows when you master it and is something beautiful when you master shooting on your horse. The unlockables are great too with two amazing guns and a wicked horse. If you do not like extreme violence this is not for you. But if you like explosions blowing people to pieces, firing arrows into people's faces , burning bandits, dismembering badguys with shotguns, popping people's heads with snipers oh yeah and all the violence to animals. horses get blown apart as well as humans. So to summarise an excellent game with story mind blowing visuals and dismembered horses.
ARGH! too short!
i was very impressed with this game, however i was hugely dissapointed with its length. i got it when i was off school ill, and so i played it quite alot then. after playing for only about 3 hours i felt i was quite far into the plot, which, unfortunatley, i was. this however, is my only vice with the game. the plot is really very gripping, and kept me playing simply to find out what happened next. the game borrows heavily from classic western films, and i was pleased that i could play out all my favourite bits from cheesy clint eastwood films, such as shooting through the hangmans rope to save an ally. fighting apaches off the bridge out of dodge city and the street fight as you work your way through empire to kill the corrupt mayor were particularly enjoyable. weaponry is also good and well designed, as you really feel that you are doing damage with your weapons, especially the shotguns. the 'quick draw' ability is an almost unashemed rip-off of 'red dead revolvers''s dead eye ability, but that doesnt really matter to me. the only annoying thing about the weapons is that you can get too good with them. near the end of the game, you get the furgison rifle, which fires slowly (in real life) and must be reloaded after each shot. however, if you have done most of the side missions, you can fire it almost semi automatic, and you can fire your pistols almost continually with basically no relaod time by the end. the game also gets rather rediculous near the end, with the final boss being encased in armour so you cant hurt him, and having a ludicrously powerful and annoyingly accurate Nock gun, as featured in sharpe. it took me absoloutely ages to figure out how to kill him. generally, the game plays very well, and is quite accurate in its representation of the period. i thouroughly enjoyed playing this game, but was dissapointed by its length. definatley worth haveing. oh and by the way, if you buy it, play on hard. its much more rewarding, as normal mode is very very easy.
