Manufacturer's Description
The first name in football gaming, Madden NFL Football, enters its 16th year of dominance, with more than 40 million copies sold throughout the history of the franchise. Now the game that spawned a gaming lifestyle is coming to your PSP.
Exciting 11-on-11 action and a deep playbook featuring more than 50 plays make Madden NFL 06 the only football game to have on your PSP. A 3D isometric (rotating) camera lets you follow the plays from different angles, while plenty of unique animations bring the player movements to life.

An excellent addition to the portable console....
Having read the review by the person who gave this game 1 star I felt I had to put my opinion forward too. Similar to everyone else I recommend you don't take that reviewer too seriously (although there are some valid points I'll discuss shortly) as there are many features that make this game great.
The good parts for this game are the fact that it is a portable version of the PS2/PC/Xbox etc game! You can finaly take your Madden game on the road. Apart from that the basic gameplay is just as good as the others with the usual interfaces and some very good added features. A good example of this is the 'Assistant Coach' mode that allows you to sign free agents to your practice roster (which plays an integral part in the real NFL) and then you can train them individually in specific drills to improve their abilities and then sign them to your roster! Which is very useful for developing your overall team (and gives you a similar eliment to what the real NFL has with sending players off to NFL Europe to tone their skills). I also like the WiFi online play...although as yet I havn't been on when anyone else has been online which is a shame!
On the down side there are a few gliches. The less major one is occassionally when kicking the meter doesn't load properly - although this is easily solved by simply pausing the game and then resuming...simple! A bigger gliche though is in the defensive AI (which is where I semi-agree with the 1 star reviewer). At times when a reciever is running a deep fly pattern (running straight down the field!) then the defensive AI can get pretty aweful...the Cornerback or Safety who is marking the WR runs along side and then gradually drifts away, opening the WR up so that all he has to do is catch the ball and he's away for a touchdown. This can get very annoying when you are on Defense, although when on Offense you can use it to your advantage! Another problem that sometimes crops up is when attempting to put touch on the pass using the analog stick to lead the WR...this often ends up in a wildly overthrown or innacurate pass which gets infuriating, but is easily avoidable!
Overall this is a good game that is a definite consideration for any Madden fans who want to take their games on the road. It does have its minor problems but overall this is very good and Im sure 07 will be a big step up as EA now have the basics for the PSP down and working well...lets just hope they don't do what they did with the XBox 360 and ruin the game to make a deadline!
This game is fantastic
I agree with the other reviewer, ignore the 1*.
I bought this last December, my first game on the PSP and I have not stopped playing in since. The graphics are great, commentary good, plays good. You do need some Football knowledge
to enjoy the game at its best, but a little time and effort
and you will get to know which plays suit which team ! Well done EA.
Don't be put off by the harsh earlier 1-star review.....
This game is much better than the '1 star reviewer' suggests and if you're familiar with the Madden series of games, you'll find this is an up-to-date edition of a very good game that EA have successfully transplanted to fit the PSP. It's a worthy American football title that has evolved from previous versions of the game and, crucially, graphics and play-ability remain strong on the smaller screen of the PSP. Recommended for all NFL fans.
