Hornblower is fantastic.
Hornblower is the story of a young Midshipman who through a series of acts of bravery and determination becomes a Captain of his own ship. Very good script, costumes, and above all the actors seem to "be" the people they are playing. Set during the war with France this multi disc collection is a must for anyone who likes a good story.
All the shots of the boats were done using models. You'd never know.
The costuming is impressive. There are so many primary characters (Hornblower's senior officer & later mentor, Sir Edward Pellew, Archie, his fellow midshipman, Styles, Matthews & Oldroyd, the ships' hands) and so many extras, all looking incredibly authentic and sounding authentic too.

Mistake me not, these are serious dramas but there is a great twist of humour running throughout (Hornblower had a great sense of humour and the sardonic appealed to him greatly. That comes through here).

The music, wow, I wish they'd just release a soundtrack. It's amazing.
I can't recommend these movies highly enough, so you'll just have to get them and see for yourself.
